My father is looking at getting a "new" truck and is looking at this truck....

2011 Ram 250, Cummins diesel, 6 sp automatic, reg cab, long box

Thoughts? Comments? Things to look for?
He used to be a Dodge guy, but over the years he has developed a disdain for Dodge. Bad experience with a Dakota and a Shadow.
I mentioned a lot of you guys here (on a Ford forum) rave about the RAM pickups. He's willing to listen.

Any chance you can get the VIN so I can pull a window sticker?

First thing to check is if its the regular CTD or the High Output CTD. If its the H.O. it should have the Aisin trans which is much much stronger and more robust.

How many KM's on the clock and have you checked the engine hours in information screen? Cummins motors are notoriously long lasting but a 2011 would have some emissions garbage on it which can be troublesome if the truck has idled a lot in it's life. I'd rather have a truck with 170,000 kms and lower hours vs. a 70,000kms truck with a boat load of idling.

Aside from that check the rockers and bed wheel wells those are the spots that rust first. Check around floor behind seat and rear headliner for signs of water leaks as the 3rd brake light seal commonly goes on these trucks.

Check make sure the HVAC works in all positions, have seen issues in blend door system. Aside from that can't think of anything else a normal test drive wouldn't show as an issue.

Thanks!

Doing a little research, the Aisin ASC69RC wasn't available until 2013, so the 2011 will have the (68RFE?)

Any thoughts on where my father should bow out of the bidding?

Problem is, diesel pickups are bringing a ridiculous premium.
Unless he's tugging a barn around on a fairly regular basis, gasser makes a ton more sense.

Color looks more in line for a corporate or municipal truck.

Google search does show it was a stock / available color option.

$16000- $20000 depending

That what I've seen similar trucks go for at Ritchie Bros.

Almost had it at $7100, when another bidder ran it up to $14900 before my father let it go.

Damn, would have been a steal. Even at 15k thats a fair price unless it had 250k+ kms
