Figured i would rip on the What are you listening to thread.

Tried a Tequila Lime Drink I picked up at the LCBO tonight Dos Locos, I was never much of a Tequila drinker but this maybe my drink for the summer. I have been getting kind of sick of beer recently ( other than Guinness).
http://www.lcbo.com/lcbo-ear/lcbo/product/searchResults.do?ITEM_NAME=DOS+LOCOS+LIME+TEQUILA+ MARGARITA&ITEM_NUMBER=&language=EN

And at under $3 bucks a can pretty reasonable!

Cheers!!

A bit better than a beer buzz (7%) , but no bloated feeling (sound like a girl don't I!). Not sweet either.

What I didn't like about Tequila straight up was it had a swampy taste to me. This takes the edge off.

Margaritas last night. We make them with rum and a splash of tequila, instead of all tequila.

Picked up a mint plant last weekend for summer Mojitos.

But my usual choice is beer. Iron Duke or Waterloo Dark.

Good selection of big brand beer (Sapporo, Heineken, Stella, creemore, corona, bud, coors light) at the house right now due to my wife being in Ottawa a couple times recently so stocked up for a good long while. I typically drink more micro-brews, but hard to argue with the prices in Quebec. Also have a bottle of a limited edition Collingwood rye which is excellent and Johnny walker black.

Make sure you keep that mint plant well away from any garden. Previous owner here had a mint plant in the herb garden. That thing is worse than any weed I've ever seen.

Gabe;
Have your wife pick up beers at the Costco in Hull, now that's almost inexpensive beer. (my last time purchasing there it was less than a dollar a can or bottle, they sell Corona too).
I'm not imbibing as much lately so I stick to buying microbrewery beer for the most part.
I will give that Tequila stuff a try as I like margaritas.

the lime is used in the bottle cause they are clear, when light gets to beer it makes it go skunky, the lime helps prevent that from happening...

that's why most beer bottles are dark glass

of course if your beer doesn't last long enough for it to start turning then I guess not an issue lol

personally I do like the taste though...I will drop limes in many beer, not just Corona

I'm at around 20 now. I had some really nice ones when I was living in England. I'd send a lot of it home to my Dad, so his collection was pretty sweet at one point too. There are a lot of bottlings that never leave the UK - the LCBO list is decent, but not great.

this is what I had on the go about a year ago. Some of it has changed now though.

Glennfiddich is the devils piss (even the scots dont drink it).....having a rare bottle is cool but nearly blasphemy to call it the stanley cup(both to the cup and scotch) :). Honestly anything over 18 years I find is not as good as 12-18yr bottles. I think that is the scotch sweetspot, my 40yr is neat tasting, very sherry like and completely unique but not something i would enjoy to sit down with at night.

depends on the bottling date. mine is 2001 or 2002. i cant remember. when i get a chance i will take it out of its original shipping box/foam then open the wood case with the key to get to the info and the bottle. i store it in my bedroom closet. is that proper storage???

I have tried White owl whisky (Clear) and plenty of moonshine over the years. That White owl is some pretty strong stuff. And the moonshine you buy in the liquor store is obviously not nearly as potent as the stuff from the barn.

good investment either way.
My god you will ruin it there....bring it to my place i will hold onto it for you :)

Should be fine inside your house as long as temps and humidity fairly constant and not in sunlight. . Scotch is pretty tough.

i
depends on the bottling date. mine is 2001 or 2002. i cant remember. when i get a chance i will take it out of its original shipping box/foam then open the wood case with the key to get to the info and the bottle. i store it in my bedroom closet. is that proper storage???

It's just corn or grain alcohol, it's just a novelty. I have a small amount of 96%, your reading that right, grain alcohol that I save for smart asses that say they can "drink anything". I only let them have 1/4 to half a shot. Trust me, they never ask for anymore. I have it so I can cook Portuguese sausage on a porcelain pig. This stuff burns forever. I don't like the flavour at all. I don't even like 151 proof rum.
I can get my hands on Apple shine any time I want. Can't stand it either.

I have some "Slivo" that i brought back from Bosnia in the 90's. They don't nickname it "Sleep in the ditch" for nothing.

"In Bosnia, home distillation of plum rakia/šljivovica is common (plum = šljiva). Croatians and Serbians of Bosnia have a long tradition of making plum rakia and it is often made by individuals."

We used to have to designate 2 people on patrol to be the ones hosted by the locals. They would take great offence if you did not take a drink when they offered it to you. Many a patrol i was often 2/3rds in the bag by the time we made it back to camp. Even would be given the choice of daughters to marry.....

mmmm ... that 40 is niiiiiiiice.

01CobraVert - I am brand loyal to Bacardi so I'll say it is better. lol. TBH, I am not really a rum drinker. I know, for me, that I am not fond of the generic white or black rums. I find the harsh and that they do not mix well. I occasionally like to sip the older Appletons, so I like rum that is warm and smooth. This was the first time I have had the Oakheart, and it was very nice, full bodied. Very flavourful, nothing at all like the regular white rum. Much smoother than Sailor Jerrys.

How is the 40 Creek? Is it aged for any length of time? I'm sure it's blended (almost ALL whiskies and scotches are).

Not4you
08-14-2014, 09:31 AM
the 40 Creek Double Barrel Reserve is a blend of 3 other 40 Creek offerings. Canadian Whiskey is aged a minimum of 3 years so it is likely safe to assume the 3 used in the blend were aged 3 at least. But some of the other 40 Creek are aged up to 10 years. Then they are blended and aged further in the second set of barrels. Not sure how long but to be effective, perhaps another 3+ on top of the age of those in the blend.

I believe Jensen Cheese in Simcoe (Norfolk County) make their cheese onsite. The Balderson 7-year and Smoked Cheddar is nice regardless of whether they're independent or conglomerate owned.

Had these cheeses last night with the Meiomi Pinot Noir -so good (the wine combined with the 5 Brothers and Monforte Dairy cheeses was such a "creamy" combo)!!! It was hard not to polish off the bottle but we managed to save some for tonight.

Couldn't remember the name of the Angel's Gate wine I bought last week (which was so good - excellent to pair with strong cheese and/or a nice steak). Stopped by the LCBO to grab another bottle and picked up some Vanilla Porter to have with dinner tonight.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v736/rimohamed/General/IMG_20141015_215137_zps1945564f.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/rimohamed/media/General/IMG_20141015_215137_zps1945564f.jpg.html)

Was running errands in Etobicoke yesterday and stopped in to Global Cheese on Norseman Ave and picked these up to pair with some of the wine we got on the weekend:

1. Sheep's milk cheese in olive oil (Spain) - our cured sheep cheese in olive oil gives us a special feeling to taste. The strong flavor of cured sheep cheese is highlighted with the unmistakable touch of olive oil. The best raw material, raw sheep's milk and olive oil in a merger that does not lose importance for generations. Tang and defined, and a great aroma characterize this "only cheese".
http://www.elpastor.com/en/sheep-milk-cheese-in-olive-oil-el-pastor.php

2. Goats Milk Cheese with Natural Flavoring of Honey - made with a drizzle of honey added to pure goat milk for a cashew-like nutty sweetness. Slightly sweet, full of flavor, yet not strong or salty. Easy to slice, grate or cube, wonderful in salads or as a snack with fruit.

3. Aged Creamy Gouda (Holland)

4. Wensleydale with Papaya & Mango (England) - is a hand-made Yorkshire cheese. It is made from milk drawn from cows grazing the sweet limestone pastures on surrounding farms in Upper Wensleydale. This gives the cheese the unique flavor for which it is renowned. The cheese is a fresh, young cheese with a clean, mild, slightly sweet flavor with a honeyed aftertaste. The superb texture of fresh Wensleydale is perfectly complemented by the addition of papaya & apricot.

myf150screw - here are a few reds that we have enjoyed in the past (pair up with some nice cheese like those posted previously for a smooth/creamy finish). We found the Meomi (2013) is better if left open for an hour or so before you drink it (save some for next day as it mellows nicely). The first is the most expensive while the other 3 are uner $20. You'll find them in the Vintages section (selection will vary from store to store):
