My first new vehicle experience after owning lots of used over the years.
Not quite the same as ordering current and selecting all the options you want but....
It’s a 2019 Ram 1500 Warlock crew cab 5.7 with the 8spd.
I got a great deal buying it new since it was on their factory 19 clear out sale.
I have a few mods planned but this is how I picked it up.

Thanks guys!
It’s all automotive marketing I think and they all play the game I’ve come to realize.

As mentioned the price was right with Chrysler’s clear out event and the additional discounts I got.
I explored all options and I was originally looking at used 16-18s F150 Sport and Ram Sport but this was the best option for me.

My dad is disappointed I didn’t buy another F150 but he understands why.

What are your impressions of it so far?

I’ve only put 200kms on it so far.

I’ve been driving a car since selling my truck (5 months ago) so it feels huge inside and higher vs my FX4 was.

The Alpine 9 speaker/sub stereo is a lot better vs the Sony that was in my FX4.

I was really disappointed that the rear slider is manual and not power! (even my 05 FX4 was power)
I asked the sales guy before I bought it and he said it was power but I think he just assumed it was.

With all the options and different packages it really does get confusing cause they offer so many different combinations and it’s all reflected in the cost. The MSRP for mine was $63,145 and I think that’s ridiculous.

I totally agree... I've been thinking about a new truck this spring and the sticker shock is shocking...lol My '14 Lariat/FX4 only has ~65k on the odo and is running great. I keep thinking why am I looking at a new truck?

Power switch would have been in mini console up near the mirror.
A joke how little so many sales peeps know about the product they sell. Dude to me truck didn't have power fold mirrors, of course that was just as I pushed the switch n looked amazed when they moved.

I doubt they offer a power slider anymore. They keep the luxury options for the new trucks now, otherwise everyone would buy the Classics!

Thanks guys!

First purchase was Weathertech mats front and rear.

Also upgrading the tires to BFG’ KO2’s. I’ve had them before and really liked them for all year use.
Tires 1’ taller also vs the Goodyear stockers going the 65 series.

I’m thinking next mod is black step bars.
Not sure if I’ll go aluminum or 304 stainless powder coated black.

Nice. If you get Mopar boards and have them installed at the dealer they are covered by your factory 3/60k warranty.

Ya, that’s what I meant, I should have specified they still offer power slider, just not in the classic trucks anymore :)

I priced side boards from the dealer $1000 and a hard tonneau for $1600 before I bought it. I said fuk that to both.

Upon looking at build packages for the truck the power real slider is a $330 option for the classic. It’s just not common unless you order one fully “fully” loaded which would also include a sunroof. With all the Warlocks I searched I only viewed two with both those options.

That's a bargin.

No wonder there's always a bunch of leftovers when the new stock arrives.

That’s insane...but often you get into a 2500 or 3500 truck and it has a purpose and/or makes you money.

SlipperyVic
03-22-2020, 12:14 PM
It is commercial, so it will slowly earn it's keep but it's still crazy.

Saw a couple listed for over $100k. One 3500 was $112k. It better come with a driver for that price.

I got a Leer Tri Fold softcover from the dealer when I bought the Truck and it was $450. For my side steps I went to Action Car & Truck Accessories, paid around $500 installed

I went to Action for my Weathertech’s and will probably get the side bars there also once I figure out which ones I want.

I’ve only had factory aluminum on both my last FX4’s with no issues. I’m kinda sceptical about going the 304 stainless steel power coated black in fear of them getting rock chipped and rusting.

Any feedback on them from anyone following along quality wise?

With what’s going on right now and my gym closed and no idea when it will be reopening I felt the need to buy some home gym equipment before I lose my mind.

I loaded up my 20ft car trailer and headed 401W. After loading up the trailer and putting most of the weight in the front leaving the space in the rear for the bigger pieces but not necessarily heavier I was shocked at the rear sag on the truck.

I could tell the truck had enough jam to pull and the 8 speed did a good job finding the right gear which was good but this concerns me and now I’m curious how much sag it will have with the car in the trailer.

Last night I started looking at aftermarket HD rear coil springs offered, air bags and Sumosprings custom helpers.....and I also started regretted not buying a F150 with leaf spring suspension vs the coil springs.

What are you guys using to prevent this?

ZR
03-23-2020, 10:58 AM
Airlift 1000 HD.
Easy on the wallet, easy to install, work as advertised. (while removing spring method to install seems longer, works out shorter in the long run). Just have to jack up, support via stands on the chassis, floor jack under the axle, unbolt shock, lower axle n remove spring. I do however find it doesn't take much air to level things out on a properly loaded trailer.

Lines can be hooked up individually or T'eed, also have very affordable compressor options with wireless remote. Did mine as individual fills tucked between top of bumper / lower edge of the tail gate.
When filled to minimum, no neg affect on ride, in fact makes the truck feel more planted n stable.

Truck sounds decent for stock but stock really isn’t really my style plus it’s named “Warlock” for a reason.
Took sometime and research on this one because I wanted quality that would last for years and didn’t want it to be super loud with annoying drone. (have the cars for that).

Here’s what I decided on and the install is set for next week.

Interested in a sound clip if possible.

I’ve already taken the before pics/video.
I heard the Borla on line and really liked it.

I didn’t want to go a muffler delete or even a 14” muffler thinking it would have been way to loud for me especially when towing and the sound bouncing off the trailer.
I considered the 18” Magnaflow but once I realized it was 409 Stainless I steered away from it. It does sound good though.
The 19” Borla is 304 stainless and I think with the bigger tips it will be just the sound I’m looking for.
(The stock muffler length is 26” with 4” tips)

Yep. 2017 3.5 Ecoboost. Did a lot of research prior to buying my 2013 Eco after owning a 2005 Sierra. Had the best reviews for towing, which is the main reason I got it. Have a 30ft travel trailer that we drag around. The Ford had the heaviest suspension and the most power with the advantage of decent fuel mileage claims. Yes claims...when you get on it or there is a head wind or it’s cold, the mileage takes a beating. Has way more power than the Mach though [emoji6]

Sometimes I miss the rumble of the V8 but I get more than enough driving the car in the summer.

Sounds exactly what I’m looking for!

I used a Flowmaster on a previous F-150....it lasted 2 winters before it rusted and broke at the inlet.
Carven makes a progressive and competition muffler both I felt would have been to loud with drone for me.

Got the exhaust on and the BFG’s....real happy with both.
KO2’s give it a more aggressive look while still being quiet on the highway.
Exhaust is just loud enough to know it’s there but with no drone.
The tips although massive fit the factory bumper lines nicely and the black finish suits the truck.

Side bars arriving tomorrow.

First time towing the enclosed with the GT inside it...I didn’t have my spotter (son) while loading the car so I pulled it in to far forward and the weight wasn’t distributed properly for the drive there.
On the way back with his help I positioned it properly and it was noticeably better.
The truck pulled really well using the tow haul mode and the brake controller worked great.
Also real happy with the exhaust choice. It’s exactly the sound I was looking for.

Swapped the OEM air filter and decided to try something different vs K&N oil type.

Noticed this in the air filter box and decided to leave it because removing it requires breaking the plastic tabs off. I’m assuming if removed it would increase the induction noise and sound better when dropping the hammer.

Also after more research into the rear “sag” situation when towing I decided to go this route:

All the reviews I’ve read are great!
I called the manufacturer prior to ordering and they were very helpful selecting the proper spring for my needs.

Install planned for the spring and I’ll determine at that point if a front levelling kit is required. I’ll also compare the stockers to these.

Checked out some RAM forums and found out that other filter in the air box is a carbon filter -installed for when you shut your motor off the intake venting fumes will be captured. I think Dodge started installing them in 18+ cause some members with 17 and older said they didn't have them.

With nearly 6000kms on the truck now I did it’s first oil change and while it was on the hoist swapped in the rear coils.

Tuf truck spring is on the left....I was surprised how much shorter it was but it’s considerably thicker.

It’s been a couple years since I’ve updated this thread so here it goes with my latest issue which I’m sure some of you can relate to.

My truck has 17K on it and the majority has been on the 401 and exposed to some bugs/stone chips.
The steel bumper has thin factory black paint and once chipped we all know the outcome over time.

The truck hasn’t even been winter driven yet and my plan is to keep it for many years to come especially with the prices of new trucks.
SO after talking to my neighbour who owns a LineX shop he had the same issue with his truck so he put in some time masking and prepping and coated the front bumper with LineX for protection.

I’m definitely getting him to do mine and actually like the looks of it!
What do you guys think?

Thanks Rick.

My previous FX4 front bumper got bad with stone chips/rust over time and really looked like $hit.
I took it to the dealer and they said it was a very common problem and the only fix was replacing it with a chrome bumper.

So I hit it with an electric sander and painted it with undercoating/rust black paint and it was better…especially from 15ft away.

I think this has everything to do with the paint thickness they spray on them when new.
Certain manufacturers apply thicker paint and it keeps the front ends looking in good shape even after high mileage and some not so much.

IMHO, inexcusable all of the mfgs have the exact same problem. Not like these trucks cost 5 bucks new.

I think the LineX looks great.

Same. I’ve seen beater trucks in person that were linex’d from head to toe.. looks great, easy to clean and never scratches. Great for a work truck.
