View Full Version : Different brand in the garage part II

The search started several months ago when the wife repeatedly stated she wanted a “Nice” car in the garage she could also enjoy during the summer months and drive.
Well I finally found it 3hrs away and contacted the seller and told her we were going on a road trip without disclosing the details.
After she viewed it, sat inside and heard it she was all in and the deposit was given and it was brought home the following week in early December.
My favorite part of the experience was when she jumped when it first barked on the cold start and when she sat inside and noticed the V8 written on the gauge cluster and asked "Is this bad on gas?"
which I replied "YES" and she didn't even care!

Details: 2013 MB C63 AMG Coupe P30 package.
6.2L V8 7spd 481HP/443TQ @6800rpm
Forged pistons, rods and crank borrowed from the SLS.
LSD rear diff with staggered 18” rims.
Different driving modes including manual and race start.
Revised AMG tune with 174mph limiter.
Carbon fibre goodies inside and out.
Large red 6 piston Brembo’s, factory lowered suspension and more.

The car is super clean inside and out and sounds bad ass with just a resonator delete.
To say she loves it is an understatement.
I have a feeling she will never drive in the fox again after this and it's probably better that way.
I have some basic cosmetic and performance mods planned for it in the spring and we both can't wait to drive it!

Thanks man!
It was one of my sons fav cars in Need for speed rivals for a Xbox 360 years ago...although that was the Black Series and is still one of my fav cars today.
It truly is a German V8 NA muscle car and one of the last in a dying breed with all being smaller displacement and turbo now.

My neighbour across the street had one until last summer. That guy used it as a track car. That thing barely broke down and didn’t quit. Your going to be very happy with that car. FYI it handles NOS like boss lmao. Also be aware they have an issue with the header I believe….. it cracks at the block and leaks. Your year they might have fixed it but it’s worth looking into it. Have fun man!

I've read up on them a lot prior and post ownership and have never heard anything about the factory manifolds cracking.
The early models (08-10) had an issue with head bolts (not long enough) that was sorted in early 2011.

They respond really well to FL headers but they don't come cheap and install appears to be very difficult and something I'm not interested in at all.
On that note the engine compartment doesn't leave much room for anything and the battery is already located in the trunk from factory.

I strongly agree about the motor comment…the noise the hand built M156 engine makes is awesome.
Lots of owners also remove the secondary cats on top of the resonators for even more volume but that’s a little much even for me and takes away from the AMG sound.

It was kinda like the LS7 valve drop issue.
Not every motor did it but if you owned one it was something you wanted to address in the event that it did.

Head bolts really sucked on them until 2011 yea. But if you caught it early enough you could swap em pretty easily. Yours being later with P31 makes it bulletproof basically.

Hell of a ride you got there, those things are so much freaking fun. Also being Coupe/P31 makes it mighty rare and mighty desirable. Congrats sir.

We’re both really looking forward to driving it come spring.
I just picked up an original 2013 AMG sales brochure and waiting for it to arrive.
Also been trying to track down a window sticker for it listing all the options and original cost...just to have in my folder. I’m really curious what the car cost new.

The coupe is a rare find and was only made between (11-15) and that’s why I didn’t hesitate to go see it.
A lot more sedans out there since they made them from (07-14) but the wife has never had a “sports” car so 2 doors was a must for her.
People seem to still go nuts for these in the wagon version which does look cool when you see them drifting around a track roasting the rear tires.
Example of this is on Netflix “My next guest” when David Letterman interviews Lewis Hamilton. It’s a must watch…so funny.

Canadian car purchased from MB in Thornhill May 2013….and yes according to VINDECODER
P30 is AMG performance package, 923 is output increase of engine, 471 is LSD rear diff and
460 is Canada version.

I’m the 3rd owner.
Original owner leased it for 5yrs and returned it. 2nd owner bought it in 2018-2021.

I’ve got a printout from MB decoding the VIN and should compare it to the info above.

No, I haven't googled his name yet.

Unfortunately I really only drove the car home, cleaned it and stored it.
I'm really anxious to look into the engine and the car on the lift to see if it has any mods.
I crawled underneath to notice the resonator delete in the middle as I was also checking to make sure it still had mufflers on it at the rear of the car.

The previous owner really didn't know anything mechanically about the car and I gathered that when he couldn't open the hood himself but provided me receipts for service he had completed while owning it.

I would really like to contact the original owner and ask him about the car including a small knob under the steering column I found and what it's for.
I asked the previous owner and he wasn't aware it was even there.

Snapped a pic of the engine builders name but it’s really difficult to read.
Quick MB search and I found it spelt Behar Pepshi.

I also received the 52 page 2013 AMG sales brochure in the mail which is cool.
And last but not least after A LOT of effort I finally received a copy of the window sticker for it.

Hope so!
Lots of comparison vids VS BMW and Audi etc which are still cool to watch.

MB certainly played the game in terms of HP numbers between all the W204 models -base C63 451HP, P30/P31 481HP, 507 edition 507HP and the black series 510HP.
All came with essentially the same drivetrain but the factory tune was revised and trany upgrades were made in later years ditching the torque converter and replacing it with a MCT.

Even the much steeper priced MB SLS shared the same drivetrain but it made 583/479 to help justify the cost more I think.

WOW....killer Black series with only 3000 miles!
They will want serious $ for that car.

Cosmetic ordering has begun for the car….gave the wife two options
#1- Classy with stock emblems and OEM chrome look
#2- Murdered out with gloss black emblems and chrome delete.

I showed her some pics for reference of both and to my surprise she picked #2.

So my first order of business was all new gloss black emblems with the proper OEM side emblems which I like better vs the black series ones currently on the fenders.
These are coming all the way from Australia.
Quality looks good and the price/shipping was reasonable using the postal service.

I’m not sure what one of the previous owner was thinking but the valve stems had those hideous gold crowns on them for caps. Those went right in the garbage and ordered 8 off eBay from China for about $20.

After washing the car when I brought it home I noticed some curb rash on the drivers side rims.
I looked back on the pics that I requested of each before and noticed he had sent me 4 pics of the passenger side rims only (shady I know) but I didn’t catch it.

After thinking about replicas (C63 507 style specifically) I took a hard pass due to their poor quality and searched out 4 of the AMG stockers to replace mine.
Took a couple weeks but found a mint set that I didn’t hesitate to grab.
The rims were dirty and dusty but curb rash free. Tires were also completely shot.
I spent about a week researching new tires and went with a set that suited my application the best I think.
Install should be this week on the rims so pics and details to follow.
I predict more tire shortages happening this spring so I’m getting mine now.

Sourced out a slightly more aggressive Maxton design front splitter for the car and luckily it was somewhat local and already painted gloss black.
It was the last piece they had in stock for my model and the wait time for non stock Maxton items is 6+ months coming from Europe.
Install looks pretty straight forward with 2 sided tape and all hardware provided.

Tires installed and balanced on the rims before the mad spring time rush.
Now they just need a good cleaning and polish when the weather permits before install.

Car comes with a 235-40-18 on a 8” front and 255-35-18 on a 9” rear leaving the front .5” taller for some reason.
I went with a 245-40 front and 275-35 rear making them the same height overall.

Tire choice came down between these and the Conti DSW06….but ultimately I just wanting a dedicated summer tire VS a performance all season. I also got a smoking deal on the Indy’s and like the aggressive tread pattern.

Not so happy about the rust on the rotors however….applied brake cleaner to them with a light sanding and it help a little but I think they just need to be used since they were put away wet in Dec.

I figured…but just don’t think they have the same coating on them like the Brembo’s have on my GT and Cobra.

I got in touch with the previous owner and he purchased Centric rotors when he did the brakes.
I’ve never used Centric before so not sure of the quality but I’m sure replacement price was more affordable vs Brembo.

When I spoke to the previous owner who purchased the car off the lease at 60K he told me he kept up with all the vehicle maintenance and the only performance mod he did while owning it was some drop in K&N air filters. The exhaust and cosmetic mods were already done.
Well upon working on the car I found the air boxes missing the rear screws (must have dropped them) so when I shampooed the engine some water got inside them since they weren’t totally sealed.
I purchased 6 new screws for $1.79

I’m glad I didn’t take his word for it as the air filters have definitely not been cleaned since installed and the plugs have seen better days….plugs weren't OEM NGK's and the gap was wrong on them also.

I managed to get the car on the lift with the front bumper sensors freaking out and reducing power to it.
Car is clean underneath and damage free.
Not really to my surprise I discovered the secondary cats also removed from the car.
This is a common mod for those wanting a couple more HP and even more of that AMG sound while keeping the CIL off with the primary cats still functioning.
Very impressed with the sound deadening and undercarriage panelling on it which obviously helps with the reduced interior noise and no drone from the exhaust.

I’ve read a lot about the exhaust on these cars and apparently adding an X pipe increases power slightly but takes away from from the AMG sound….hence why I think the original owner just straight piped it to keep the stock sound just much louder.
I’m really impressed with the sound of the car both on start up and driving normally. It’s not overly loud and has no drone but man when you get on it or it downshifts in S+ or manual mode the sympathy begins.

Car received 8.5 litres of Pennzoil Euro 5w40 synthetic and 450ml of Liquid Moly Ceratec.
I searched local parts stores high and low for the OEM Castro 75w140 only to end up buying it from the dealer.
Took a cool pic while at the MB parts desk.

It took awhile but the vinyl wrap is removed from the car.
The chrome underneath is in great condition which is a benefit of wrapping I never thought of before.
The gloss black vinyl will be installed shortly when the car is put on the road.
I’m now thinking of leaving just the door handles and the front grill star chrome to compliment the rims.
I can always take it back after if I don’t like it.

The vinyl wrap around the driving lights and the star in the grill were by far the most difficult to remove.
Full emblem removal is next.

I thought that was nice that she took the time to find them for me and the quality of plates look good again.

Car is booked at the MB dealer at the end of the month for an air bag recall and I’ve asked them to check the software to see if any updates are required for it.

Transmission service kit ordered for the car so I plan on having that done in June at a local shop that specializes in Euro cars.
Previous owner never did it so I know it’s past due.
I’ll be curious to see if it’s ever been changed.
(The joys of buying used with NO service records).

I contacted Euro Charge in North York and inquired if my car has been tuned/serviced there previously.
I was hoping to provide them my VIN # and they could tell me but unfortunately that was not the case.
He said they don’t keep that information and I would have to contact the original owner to find out.
Original owner leased the car so that’s a dead end.
He did say however if the dealer installs software it will be flashed back to stock and recommended I go there after if I want any performance tuning done which I’m not interested in at this point.

And lastly booking the 3m gloss black vinyl wrap for the chrome delete shortly.

Well…..I probably should have known better BUT the wife wants to sell the car!

She loves it BUT with the combination of a V8/500HP and the outrageous price of Shell 91 (2.39L) it has totally taken the enjoyment out of driving it for her.
Keep in mind she’s never owned a V8 or a vehicle with over 200HP before and when she drives it….she drives it painfully slow and utilizes about 5% of that AMG performance.

She’s been trying to convince me to sell one of the Mustangs to keep it but I’m struggling with that one so unfortunately the Benz is currently listed on Kijiji and Auto trader and going to see what happens.

If anyone is interested they can just send me a PM.

Not exactly sure what I’m looking at here with the trans pan and filter removed but I’m glad the mess was on their garage floor and not mine.
Mechanic said the fluid appeared to have been changed before and the magnets inside were metal free which was good.
Trans fluid removed/installed is a greenish/grey colour which I found strange cause I’ve only seen red before.

More importantly ALL mechanical work is now complete!
Now on to the cosmetic stuff.

Wife and I recently took the C63 to Niagara for the weekend and it managed a 11.1L for gas mileage which I thought was decent for it.
We both really enjoyed the drive...so much in fact she had a change of heart and it's no longer for sale which makes me happy.
The car was very close to being sold on a couple of occasions but luckily no deposit was ever given.

It was kind of funny hearing her get compliments on the car when we were together on the trip and her surprise and reaction to them just not being use to that kinda thing.
It's not uncommon to see a lot of Mercedes on the road however not many sound like this one that's for sure and from what I've read the new C63 is changing bigtime.
Gone is the V8 4L bi-turbo.

The new C63 is rumoured to be the first AMG to gain a new hybrid electrified turbo 2-litre M139 four-cylinder with a 201 HP electric motor on the rear axle.
This endows Mercedes-AMG’s new 9spd MCT drivetrain with a total of 670HP/555TQ apparently.
Oh how things are changing and quickly it seems.

Chrome delete for mine coming soon.

With all the exposure to this German car, I have developed an urge to pick up a Chrysler Crossfire SRT6. Been spending time on the Crossfore Forum and there are some really serious guys on there with fairly serious cars. Hoping to find something with relatively low k`s on it. You don’t see many of those Crossfires anymore that’s for sure.

As for the price of these….I was specifically looking for a coupe (11-15). Pre facelift sedans can be found cheaper.
The 14-15 507s were a lot more $ basically for the 2012 BS hood vents and 19” nicer rims so I searched for a 13 with the P30 package and eventually found it in Ottawa.
The prices of the 11-13 were def more reasonable and I can tell you now it’s a lot of car for the money!

Well after 10 months of ownership and 5000kms driven the C63 has been sold and is now back in the Ottawa area.

New owner is a great guy and we formed an instant connection and we will certainly keep in touch.
He is picking up with the car where I left off and truly appreciates everything that has been done and documented.
It was a no price negotiation type of deal and it put some money in my pocket which is always easier when saying goodbye.

I’m really going to miss the car as it was a special and rare one!
Did everything very well (handling, brakes, comfort, appearance, sound) and I’m so glad I got to experience it and work on it.

As previous discussed having 3 cars parked for the winter just wasn’t practical so when the time comes I will be replacing it for the wife with something newer.
Most likely be a 2 door coupe, AWD, 4-6cyl with most likely turbo in the 250-350HP range.

I’ve already done some research and have the car in mind for her but in no rush to purchase it until we actually need it.

What are you thinking for the next one? I know it's not a hand-built engine but I started looking recently at the AMG C43 for my next DD - likely around 2019-ish or so model year before they started making changes for EU emissions regs (changed the Active Exhaust function/sound it appears). They are twin turbo V6 with AWD. Would love a C63 but RWD is a non-starter for me for a DD.

C43 AMG coupe is a sharp looking car!
I looked at them briefly but found them to expensive for what I was looking for at $50-60K for a 19.
Nice interior and good power with nearly 400 HP and TQ.

I think my wife would freak out about putting premium in any daily 12 months of the year so that's something else I will have to consider.
I don't blame her though she drives 30mins one way 5 X per week and she never sees the left lane lol.

On another note she’s been driving her parents 2022 Toyota Corolla Hybrid recently and it obviously gets impressive gas mileage at 3.4L/100km.
I think the car is lame but that fuel mileage is a nice change.
