Asking for a friend (ok, neighbour).....is Goo Gone the best option for removing tree sap from a car? Neighbour got sap on black SUV at the cottage on the weekend so I lent a bottle of Goo Gone but after one application they said they can still see a thin layer of it that is stubborn to remove. I advised using it a second time and letting it soak in a little longer. (looks like they scratched the clear coat in the first application a little - or hopefully it's just the remaining sap that's showing light scratches).

Any other options to successfully remove stubborn tree sap?

Thanks!

best to remove sap when it is still wet, it is difficult when dry —hand sanitizer works too I believe

The rubbing alcohol would be ok on the clear coat?

Would an IPA work? ;-)

I assume the alcohol is safe for clear coat, but as with all warning labels; test on unobtrusive area.

As for the IPA, that'd be criminal. Expect a visit from the spilled beer division of the mattress police.

Fuel line antifreeze works well.

I've had to use it on several cars each year when we come back from the cottage to remove pine sap that dripped all over the cars in the heat.
Have seen no issues with the clearcoat.

Start with the least aggressive method first. Sometimes warm water can do the trick.

rubbing alcohol

This 100%
Took my car up to a friends cottage and it was covered with the sap.
Rubbing alcohol worked perfectly.

Hand sanitizer in a pinch as it's usually alcohol, beware of any possible additives in the sanitizer and know that there are different levels (%'s) of alcohol in rubbing alcohol. Higher percentage 99% is better. Rubbing alcohol also works for cleaning up your skin, or your pets. Then wipe up your finished job and apply whatever you regularly use to keep the sheen on your finish the same. Done and done!

My wife's Rav had tree sap on the hood and top. I purchased Silverwax Tree Leak and it works great. It's a canadian company and available at Canadian Tire.

This year I tried a few products after coming back from the cottage. Fastest and easiest to use turned out to be hand sanitizer gel. Stays in place, doesn't mark the clear coat, evaporates clean and if you get sap on your hands, just use the hand sanitizer and it's gone. Didn't take much either even though I did 3 cars.

That CT tire above looks interesting.

finally a useful way to consume all the sanitizer I stocked up on.
