I am looking for some ideas for adding gauges to my 2003. I really like this set for the 87-93 foxes, but haven't seen anything like this for my 2003 (I don't believe they are the same vent).

Post up what you are using, lets see some more ideas for adding gauges.

I use a double pillar pod with a single on top of the steering column. One I'm using, pushes the gauges well forward and out of the way, some (especially triples) pull they waaaaaaaaay back, too close for a lapping car IMHO. They also make a cluster bezel for your car which locates a pair of gauges.

Also make this one that sits top center of your dash pad.

Triple pillar pod. Mine looks like minus the one closest to the wheel.
Shift light is mounted below the lower pod. Drove me nuts when it was dead nuts centered on the inst cluster. Still easy to see out the corner of your eye but not distracting. Once you've had one, you'll never go without.

This here is what my setup looks like, but i also have my nitrous arming switch in between the guages. But Matt i also have the same pods cut for 3 guages as well. I have a few if you or anyone is looking for one.

^^^love that dash, nice Tim.

I've got the dash pod that replaces the clock pod on the SN95's. Not a fan of the pilar pods since I think it's already enough of a blind spot there without the gauges.

My vote is either the cluster bezel or the center dash pod. IMO, the center pod is conveniently located, good sight line, without obstructing your view.

PPod is not so bad if you keep to two gauges vs three Don.

Oh, also forgot to mention: I don't really like the look of the pilar pods.
I like the guages to be mounted somewhere on the dash.

found a pic of mine, prior to paint and nitrous switch install, don't mind the wires and the missing deck. Wires were from a previous install so gutted that and i moved the guages down to the lower din and reinstalled the deck.

Some good ideas in this thread. I like the topic. I'm in the process of switching out my gauge cluster.
I've had a two pod gauge pillar mount sitting on a self in the garage for a couple of years. What are the best two gauges to use in it ( best meaning what info not gauge manufacturer ) N/A setup. I want a shift light too.

i thought about installing my shift light down there too, so its just available in my peripheral sight line.

Highjacking a bit. What are the must have gauges for a boosted car?

Blackmare

Fuel/Oil pressure would be a good place to start Al.
Boost/Vac is a nice to have.

I like the one that Intmdtr and WFT have in the dash, but I would then need a new deck ... which would lead to speakers ... and subs ... and amps ... yikes, these gauges just got expensive.

I'm interested in mechanical oil pressure and water temp. the same two I had added to my saleen. would there be a third I should have for an NA car?

ZR
07-16-2014, 10:01 AM
That would have you covered.
Oil temp, not a bad option either.

RedSN

mech. temperature and oil gauges are a must IMO.

Hey Matt you may consider a tranny or diff temp gauge if you are looking for another 3rd....

mechanical: oil temp, oil pressure, water temp, fuel pressure and electrical AFR and voltage and fuel is what I have for my N/A Fox,
along with a Shift light, Monster tach and mechanical speedo, fuel level. Everything is 2-5/8" or larger Autometer Pro Comp Ultra Lite stuff

Florida doesn't make one big enough to house the 5" tach, speedo and other gages. Currently have a triple vent and dual pillar pod as well as a loose column mount AFR.

Have a spare OEM IP housing that will be cut in half, made bigger and wrapped / stitched in leather next year

Honestly I had a dual pillar, dual vent and 2 on the cowl plus a tach and shift light. Never again. First you cannot read them all anyway while driving and some are useless (if on a blower car you notice no fuel pressure at WOT usually you are wayyyy to late).

I think it is nice to keep factory guages and maybe a couple key ones like oil temp maybe oil pressure. My .02 anyway I think interiors look cleaner with just a few gauges - the florida 5oh is the best of both worlds. I do like the gauge cage idea and steering column like Rick's.

Here is the instrument panel I built for my 86 SVO clone back in 1992 when the OEM tach and temp gages died.
Made this using real carbon fiber (on a backboard), full Autometer Sport Comp mechanical gage package; Fuel pressure on cowl.

If you have room for 3:

Fuel Pressure
Boost/Vacuum
Wideband AFR

Here is my set up. Two at the pillar with a speed of sound dual pillar pods, and two in the shifter bezel a la custom via me to keep it factory like, and a shift light attached to the cluster bezel.
Not the best pic, but gives the idea i guess.

gauges in the shifter bezel is really intriguing. any chance you took some pics while you put that together?
