Just noticed while backing out of driveway there were oil leaks on the concrete floor, upon closer inspection this is where the leak was coming from, the rear drive axle vent. Anyone experienced this before? Planning to take the car to the dealership next week.

Looks like the pinion seal, super common due to venting issue.

^Agree, that's a pinion seal, where is the vent you're thinking is leaking?
Pinion seals seem to leak on every one of those.

Yeah, was gearing towards the pinion seal as well. Going to drag the car into dealership next week to fix. Thanks for the input guys!

Hopefully the tech knows what he/she is doing, not like the clown who repaired mine under warranty.

If they don't fix the vent, will leak again in short order.

Sometimes the venting issue causes the seals to blow from what I read. How true it is I am not sure.

It's the lack of venting that is the problem. I've been in the gear reducer business for too many years and know all too well the importance of proper venting. We use pressure relief units (similar to a BOV on a turbo or blower), and straight breather filters. The problem with the pressure relief types, if they don't open, the pressure will take the path of least resistance, more often than not that is the seal. Even if you have the overflow canister, if the valve fails to open you will still have a leak (because the system is sealed).

I've got an old school vent n hose set up we'll be trying on Stephens car. Feel pretty strong it will 100% eliminate the premature pinion / axle seal failures.
