Hey guys i somehow got my hands on a Blowfish Racing shifter bracket before anyone else.

This thing is sweet! First impression is good. Shifts are smooth and direct. Under heavy load the shifts aren't much different then just cruising. It's impressive.

I accelerated while turning and did a 1-2 shift without any nibble or lock out. Repeated a little faster doing a 2-3 shift also without issue. Everyone knows shifts get ALL fucked up under some load while turning.

Took off from a dig the best I could and power shifted 1-2-3-4. No drama, nibble, grind, lockout, nothing! This bracket actually works! It also doubles as an NHRA drive shaft which is perfect if you want to drag!

It's not all sunshine and rainbows though. The NVH increase is quite noticable so I have to adjust it.

I'm gonna jack it back up tomorrow morning and lower the shifter another 1/8" or 1/4". It's pretty obvious to see the shifter is too high. I installed the upper bracket leaving a 1/8" gap in the slots as per instructions but I think it needs more. The vibrating noise goes away when I push the shifter down about 1/4"

I'll update as things progress. So far I'm super happy with it regardless of having to tweak it.

If you have a Manual 2011+ this is a MUST HAVE ITEM!!!

Finally a bracket that is well designed. Unlike some vendors DS loops that mount to the same spot, these guys have run the correct lower gussets to keep it rigid, very rigid. Just as impressive, how they've designed the bracket to fall over the three bolts vs having to remove n fight with em. Vid gives you an idea of how it installs. You can guarantee our sponsor shops will be looking to bring these in as well.
Thanks for the blerb Ray, now get out and enjoy that puppy.................still don't have enough for track day ya know, just sayin. LOL

Glad you found a fix...major issue with my car and the only thing that keeps me wondering if I'll keep it.

I'm going to throw a shifter at mine this year and some solid shifter bushings and see where that takes me.

Congrats on the fix

I wouldn't call this a victory just yet. It shifts great but the NVH is too much. I'm gonna have to get in contact with Blowfish tomorrow to try and troubleshoot it. When accelerating it makes a pretty loud rattling sound.

I'm thinking it's flexing a bit and making contact with something under load. I'm gonna bring some semi dense foam from work tomorrow to see if that does anything.

Do you have it pushed up and hitting the existing studs in the floor?

Ray721
09-07-2014, 07:20 PM
Holy shit I never even checked for that! Oh well, it's drivable for now. If I have time to jack it up during the week I'll check it. Michaela works late Mon Tues so I won't be doing anything till Wednesday. No way I'm going under a car on stands with nobody around.

Worst case scenario could we stick it up on the hoistage after the truck is fix'd?

You can keep the stock shifter and just get these and then move on...

A very good friend designed it, it will sort out your T6060

I have not installed my solid bushings yet, but have had the much much Higher Durometer Rear Mount one on for years with my KR shifter and no issues.

Blowfish is a Racing Co./ Track Day Company, NVH increase is probably not a priority.

Please post results. LOVE my boss but hate the transmission and shifter. Feels like I'm shifting a fucking jetta. Powershifting is extremely difficult.

That's my bet too. The more joined and solid it makes it, the louder it will be. Took getting used to with the Barton too and I'm sure this BF model would be even more so.

This is well beyond "normal" operating noise. I'll get it sorted out eventually.

It's definitely making contact under there with something. I just might take you up on that offer Dave. We'll see. Think mom is demanding my presence for dinner tomorrow so tomorrow might be a no-go.

Can't mess wit da mama.

It shifts beautifully though! I had it to like 7000rpm and straight up power shifted 3-4 without any lockout like I was getting before. If I can get this rattling sorted out this will be THE best thing for a mustang since the Coyote motor [emoji12]

Did you ever get the rattling sorted out Ray?

Ray721
10-03-2014, 12:11 PM
Haha no. That's why I haven't updated the post. I've just been driving with the windows down so I can't hear it lol.

It's a pain in the ass jacking it up on stands. Maybe this weekend I'll give it another go [emoji1]

Yea I bet a hoist would be convenient! Good luck, looking forward to an update once its resolved.

I think I may go this route as well (shifter bracket) - would there still be a need to change to a short shifter as well

Ray721

Depends how hard you shift. I might get an aftermarket shifter solely because I feel like I'm gonna rip this one off when I'm driving the piss out of it.

If you want everything done right the first time. Get the blowfish/MGW combo on CJ Pony Parts. Unfortunately they are the only company out there that has their hands on them at the moment.

Some people have horror stories with CJPP. My bracket was to my door in three days after they received it from BFR. I got lucky I guess.

I see today that CJ is now offering both the original version and the updated version. They are calling the original the "Race Version" and the new one the "Street Version". Difference is that the bushing on the street version is not rigidly mounted on the bracket. It slides in guide pins. It's a few months yet before the Grabber will be back on the road, so there hopefully be a few reviews out there on the new one before I decide to add this.

new mgw v3 or whatever it is is supposed to be perfect negating the need for something like this by making a hard mount for the shifter to the trans vs body

Its also nearly twice the price. However I haven't managed to fix the rattle yet. Every time I adjust it, it just rattles at a different RPM. I might be ripping it out and selling it, then putting the money towards the MGW.

That was the big complaint I heard about the blowjob bracket, the mgw one I was referring to was the new race one but that may also have nvh?
I have the shifter for the 3650 and love it, best built and engineered part I have on the car

A little NVH is fine. But my shifter sounds like it's full of marbles. I have one more thing I want to try when my garage warms up. If I can't get it sorted out its getting yanked out and I'll but the Barton 2 post back in until I can afford the MGW piece.

Still wouldn't have a short throw shifter. I was super happy and ignored the buzzing when I was making amazing shifts but now I want the Buzzing gone!

I'm 90% Cretan I'll end up with the Race spec MGW. Because I'm only betting 10% chance of successfully eliminating the annoying 2300 rpm rattle.

It's pretty sad my Fucking shitcan focus has a better transmission than my Mustang.

I will never buy another mustang until they stick a Tremec back in them.

What's a race spec MGW, didn't know they made a "race spec"?

Think Lou only makes 1 version for the MT82.

Sic!

I saw the pre production Next Gen GT500 one this summer and took a pic, very impressive shifters from MGW!

Oh well. Live and learn.

Mgw is pretty awesome, I ordered mine last summer, what I got was a newer revision then the picture on the website, and this is for a 3650, shows they are constantly developing and trying too improve as they learn new things.

I installed the 2nd generation Blowfish bracket yesterday with my stock shifter and the improvement is remarkable. The shift into 2nd is now smooth and all other shifts are tight and accurate. The shifter now feels so much more connected to the transmission and the shifter vibration is negligible - way less than other transmissions where the shifter is mounted on top.

The total assembly is a quality product. The snout bushing is a much harder compound than the soft rubber OEM bushing. Having a good friend with a hoist made it a 20 minute job. Best mod I've done to the car. I recommend it to all who want to stick with the stock shifter.
