I'd rather have a 9 second car I built lol.

But yes I agree. Its more fun. Anyone can go out and buy a new one. I like knowing that no matter what car pulls up beside me mine will be different.

I like to see/feel what a certain mod does.. Buying a completely built car isn't for me.

I'd rather have the bill for the 13 second car that I paid somebody to build....rather than the bill for the 9 second car that I paid somebody to build

To each their own. Either paying someone to build it or building it yourself, each experience or process is rewarding. Seeing a vision come to fruition or achieving a certain look or HP level is the ultimate goal. I personally enjoy the ups and downs of building it myself. I have to define "myself" as including many members & sponsors of this community. Without everyone's advice & help my learning curve would be much larger. Building a 13 sec car myself and transforming it over a few years into a 9sec car is my ultimate goal. Keeping it a street car that sees track duty is another component of that goal.

To answer the OP's question building a 13sec car myself over paying to have 9 sec ride built works for me. 13 secs gets old quick however lol.

I agree with you Andrew, to each their own.

If I am too busy and really want something done, the pay somebody else option works really well. It is nice to do your own work but not all of us have the time nor the skills to do it.

a 13 second car that I built...eventually

Agree.

I would end up wrapping a 9-second car around a pole anyway.

In the middle of building my own car, there is not one major system I have not R&R'd. Looking to make my car more of a corner carver than 1/4 mile star, but I want to be able to do both. 13's in the quarter would be nice.....

Forget the numbers.. Have fun building it yourself or someone doing it for you. Life is to short to worry about it.

I like doing both. I can work on some things, and do it for fun and therapy, but others like installing heads or cam or rebuild etc i will leave to someone who has the tools and skill. I see rewards both ways, sometimes life is busy, kids , career etc and there is no time to have fun wrenching i want to Drive. So i pay to have the work done. Either way, big smile on my face having fun is the key. Whichever way.

Everyone I know that runs 9's had to work hard to get there, even if they didn't build the car themselves. Never mind Heinz, but Tiago, Bruce, Mike De Med, the list could go on. Finding the right combo and putting up the number is usually a team effort. It involves not only power and weight, but shift points, tire height, tight belts, drilled rims sometimes, driving skill and the stars to align with headwind and DA.

A lot of stock cars now run mid to low 13's off the showroom floor. Build it, buy it.........who cares. So much smack talk.

Who gives a fuck, always someone with more skills, a bigger wallet and a faster ride. Like what you own and don't tear down other peoples shit.

Calm down.

I think this thread is more about personal pride from building your own ride, despite it NOT being the fastest out there.

Agreed. I think the point the OP is making is that accomplishments that involve sweat equity bring more personal satisfaction.

Rather buy a 9 sec car and slowly turn it into a 15 sec grocery getter.

A 13 second Mustang ('87 Fox body to 2004) is easily accomplished by adding slicks/ skinnies, exhaust and 13 degrees of timing...very easy. There's nothing really to build there.

A 9 second Mustang requires money and more money, and telling your kids they now need to apply for a student loan.

f*** em I had to pay for my school why should they get a free pass.. just saying ;)

how about a 13 second car that looks good enough to pick up hot girls in under 9 seconds..

and if they are hot enough you can finish in 9 seconds.. and then spend another 13 seconds making excuses.

I'm with you bro. I paid for my own way through school. I obviously will be paying for most if not all of my girl's education anyways.
