Was outside admiring my 2013 Mustang and saw a nasty surprise....I got rust bubbles forming on the hood near front headlights by drivers side. Took it to Yorkdale Ford, since they are close to me. They took pictures and submitted to Ford Canada for approval. Service Advisor mentioned that hood might be replaced if it's made out of aluminium. Anyways, car is still within the 3yr/60k warranty. Check yours just incase!! I've searched around and this is pretty common for Ford in general.

Probably can't see s*** but it's there!

It's not rust if its on aluminium, super common on 05+ mustangs, amazing that its still happening.

It's not rust if its on aluminium,

"Rust" gets used generically. But you're right, oxidation of aluminum is not technically rust.

Rusting is the common term for corrosion of iron and its alloys, such as steel. Many other metals undergo equivalent corrosion, but the resulting oxides are not commonly called rust.

Had the same thing happen to the underside lip of the hood on my F150. Paint bubbled, flaked off, and a thin layer of white aluminum oxide underneath.

Can't wait to see what happens to all these new aluminum bodied trucks in a few years.

They just don't seem to have a handle on preventing alum corrosion yet.
Sorry to see it's happened to yours.

I had the same thing on mine a couple of years ago. Repaired no problem.

It will get repaired and it will come back to haunt you. Might even be worse the second time around.

Got a call from Yorkdale Ford, they were going back and forth with Ford Canada and they approved for a Hood replacement. Nice!

looks good! So JonsMustang should the edges be sealed ?? or is this a tsb to get them sealed? I have not look at mine but the edges from factory are probably like your top photo.

Shop owner said the edges along the hood should be sealed. Factory only sealed the front. No tsb, this body shop doesn't want to cut corners like the factory.

thanks- so I guess I have to get it sealed out of pocket to prevent possible rusting in the future.

Not to burst your bubble, but it will happen again.

Ford replaced the hood on my 2005 Mustang GT, three years later it corroded again....now on third hood.

Replaced the hood with a Cervinis concept hood out of fibreglass....it shouldn't happen again.

Only time will tell. It's lifetime warranty from the bodyshop and they've done over 30+ mustangs alone with the same issue, non has come back yet.

Same thing happened on my 2011. Ford will not warranty it if its past the 3 yr 60k warranty unless its rusted right through as per their corrosion warranty. I've called and complained and they would not give in to me. I have looked into it, and a lot of shops will just purchase a new hood because they say once the aluminum has oxidated like that its needs all kinds of special treatment to repair the aluminum before paint. It is cheaper and faster to buy a new hood and paint it. A buddy that works at a local Ford body shop told me they have to treat the aluminum before painting it again or it just returns. A lot of shops will incorrectly repair the hood.
