Can't say what's causing them, but the loss of life is a terrible shame.

A lot of texting and driving. Ask Mrods about it. Hit twice in 3 weeks. Worst thing is most of us, including me, are guilty of it.

No political will to tackle the real problem of too many drivers out there with zero skillz who have somehow landed a drivers lic. Add in distracted driving via phone / texting seems to be at an all time high. Seldom do I go out during the day and not come across at least one person texting, saw several going to the airport n back on the 407 /401 yesterday. Did however see two chicken shit radar traps on the 407, how hard would it be to have unmarked vehicles traveling among the rest of traffic n spotting texters??
Personally, so long as they are driving within the flow of traffic n not changing lanes to beat hell, have no issue with a vehicle being 20 or 30 kph over the limit.

You mean today Rick. I was late to work because of it. I saw it on Breakfast Television and was saddened to see that.

Sorry yes.
Looks more like the kind of carnage you'd expect with a hwy speed accident.

I am sure I am speaking for a lot of people but I see a ton of "Zero Skilled" drivers out there on a daily basis. I am sure that if my dash cam could speak it would be constantly alerting me. I ran into 3 just on my 15 min drive to work which goes to show you how many bad and incompetent drivers are out there.

Very hard. Said unmarked vehicle would have to be outfitted with 3 officers: one texting, one spotting texters, and one driving.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the provincial government add distracted driving to stunting paper work so they can impound your car if you are caught texting and driving.

No way to really stop it but I bet a suspended license would make people think twice.

Also, distracted driving is one thing... But being to damn old to do 100kmh on the highway is a problem. Make senior citizens redo their drivers license... Ya I said it. How many times must I pass a geezer doing 60 on the 400? Fuuuuuuck

I see peeps on their phones daily when going to and from work. Never a cop around to be seen... When are these people going to learn?? Sure, I did it before it became law, but since then.... I leave my phone alone... If someone wants to talk to me, they can call me cause my car has hands free.. (Even that can be distracting, but it's not illegal at the moment)
I get real pissy when one of my drivers comes in with a ticket for a hand held device. Makes we want to fire them on the spot!!! And I love their excuses.. "It was an emergency with my family" Like I've never heard that one before, like a BILLION times!!!! Oye vay!

We are test piloting drive cams in a few of our fleets that have 2 way cameras. So when an event takes place I can see what the driver is doing at the time of the incident and not just whats in front of him.. But an incident must be triggered for the camera to save whatever is going on, so it's not like I can just peer in at anytime to check up on Bob to make sure he's being a good boy.. If this is successful then were putting them in most of the fleet.. Bad behavior drivers and the rookies will be getting them..

^^^especially the part about only saving the vid until there is an incident. Acts as a deterrent, without a major invasion of privacy.

The drivethru incident sounds like another case of a senior mistaking the stop pedal with the go pedal. Sure makes me think twice about taking my bicycle through the drive-thru.

Sounds like the cyclist may have lost one or more limbs in this accident - very sad.

Yeah it was a good selling feature on it to my drivers when we were offered the trial on it. And it was on a volunteer basis only.

Not a month goes by that I don't hear that horrifying sound of screeching tires followed by a hollow thud. Today's incident involved a small car, a boom-truck, and a bus.

https://photos.smugmug.com/TMC/i-z6L8rjH/0/0fd43796/M/bus-1-M.jpg

Didn't see it happen, but best I can tell: the car tangled with the truck then skidded sideways into the bus.
Hwy 7 and West Beaver Creek.

Time and time again weve seen that bicycles are extremely dangerous and should be banned! That guy would have been fine if he was in a car!
