Chasing supercell / tornado threat in southern Ontario! Initiation by 2 pm.. Big-time instability, wind shear. Low levels may be too unidirectional

Southern Ontario has the very real potential of experiencing a strong severe weather event during the late afternoon/evening hours on Saturday. This includes the potential for a few tornados.

As of now, we feel confident in releasing a map showing the areas we feel most likely to receive adverse weather. Unfortunately, with this setup we’ve had to highlight the most populated region in Ontario: the GTA. We’ve been going through the model data all day and will continue to do so as this system approaches the province.

A couple of notable mentions include the primary threats that include both severe wind and tornado development. Torrential downpours, moderate-size hail and frequent to intense lightning will likely accompany the strongest storms.

Timing of the thunderstorm activity will be focused around the late afternoon/evening hours and will begin in the southwest spreading eastwards as the front progresses. We’ve highlighted two areas of interest (black outline) that we feel could produce some of the more dynamic weather including the tornado potential.

As this could be a very active day, we do ask that you stay tuned to our page and check for any updates that may follow this post. As we review the models tonight, we will review the map and ensure that we have proper coverage for the areas that will see severe weather on Saturday. Hence, we could very well adjust this map if the new data changes on both location and strength.

Not sure if Reed had much success. I met up with a few friends in Whitby, and played the east option. We intercepted an intense cell that may have dropped a tornado in Bloomfield, where there was a lot of tree damage, and one house partially lost its roof. It remains to be seen whether or not it was straight line winds or a tornado, though the storm did have a couplet on radar. One thing I did notice was the amount of people taking their sweet time walking around town, while there were CG's striking all over the place.

We dodged a bullet. The supercell actually went across lake Eric and into lake Ontario.
Some areas got damage. Picton, Bloomfield and a few more.

I have family with places in Bloomfield (Wesley Acres). I've been getting pictures this morning. A lot of tree damage with some structural damage, but nothing horrible. No one was hurt from what I'm being told.
