A friend of the family is selling a 2008 or 09 Arctic cat F1000 i can get for a pretty good deal, went to check it out today battery was dead but started right up with the pull start, anything else i should be looking a little closer had ? i have read many different reviews online about the reliability of the f1000
(it has 2000 miles)
Any input would be great thanks

People usual look specifically for good engine compression and track condition. Otherwise just general condition. Rick and others will have more suggestions I'm sure. History of the sled is worth finding out too. I have no personal experience with the Cat 1000, but my impression is you have a pretty good shot at blowing it up if you drive it for a couple years. There is a reason you can get an 800 cheaper than a 1000.

I've owned an 07 and an 08, not a good option unless your a very experienced sledder. If it fits the bill for you, call to check on insurance before purchasing. Was looking to jump back in an F10 before purchasing my current Pro S 800 and found precious few ins co's would write a policy on a 1000cc two stroke sled. Suspect it's at least partially the reason there are some many F1000s for sale. Fantastic big bore sled though.

Thanks for the input guys , I had a Mach z 800 like 10 years ago but from checking out videos the f1000 is different beast , do insurance company's look at your driving record when insurancing a sled ?

Yes they surely do. Bulk of the ones I called have the F1000 black listed and would not quote. For sure TD insurance was one of them, worth calling your broker to see if you can add to your auto policy.

If you end up purchasing and need tips on it, feel free to holler or post your questions over in the F forum on HardCoreSledder (I post under ZR Sledhead).
Reliability wise, excellent machine.

I got a few little tickets so insurance will probably be crazy high for me , just to good of a deal to pass up, guess I'll give my broker a call on Monday , and what's the going rate for insurance on a sled
