Running Hot
Was on 404 north bound yesterday rush hour heavy traffic.Noticed my temp creeping up 202f ,204,208......224. Thats in bumper to bumper. So got on 407 headed east the temp went down to normal operating temp at speed. Not losing any antifreeze, just installed a new oem thermostat 195 degree. When tuned had fan low speed setting set to 186 degrees. Any ideas on what could be causing this issue. And how hot is too hot . Thanks

confirm the fan is coming on?

+1 on check fan is actually running, cars are getting old, seeing a good number of '99 up fans call it quits last couple of years.

Checked fan this weekend and operating fine. So installed a new water pump but still creeping up at idle.Just wondering if a lower temp thermostat would help, running a stock temp one now.

Well worth trying a 180 deg stat first. If you find that still does not provide the flexibility / control your after, look to a quality oil cooler with thermostatically controlled fan. Results in my own car have been dramatic, same goes for a few club members that previously experienced similar issue.

Thanks ZR I will look into the oil cooler.

I’ve never been lucky enough for it to be as simple as a t-stat. In the end, always ends with a new rad.

Good point, above comment was made assume rad / rest of cooling system in good shape. Late model alum rads, even when old, fins can appear tight and in good condition but has lost it's ability to properly dissipate heat.

I put a 180° in it when I owned it. Never had a temp issue with it
