If your just going for the look. Then that might work. just prime as normal and then Use paint to get the look your after.

Ive been out of the industry for a few years so can’t say 100% for sure. But some paints require specifics tinted primers. Some car quests and Cmax locations used to custom mix and put in spray cans...

Primer is specially formulated to stick. It does so far better then regular paint (though some paints are formulated as a two in one and don’t require it.)
