You should see it on the Health Care side, the purchases made in March (we call it March madness) to burn the departments cash, as you would be loathed in government to show a surplus.
I've seen that on the school board side as well. We don't really need it but we have to spend the money

City staff said the estimate to build a brand new staircase was based on what was installed at another park. They also pointed out the stairs may not require the same amount of work.
Fack! Where are these "other" $70,000 stairs!?

LOL, I had a 3 car interlock driveway, stone steps, walkway up the side of my house, for less than half this amount.

Thank you. I was just incensed at the idea of $70,000 for a fricking set of steps. This is what I do all day, every day. I build decks and steps.
Apparently, the city is now going to build a set of wood steps and they "will keep it under $10,000". Whoo hoo!
Put it out for bid to private, non union contractors and It will come in a teeny bit less expensive!
Just for the heck of it, I priced out a set of code compliant steps with a landing at top, a proper legal railing and concrete piers for footings. Even with a landing at the bottom as shown in some additional pictures published yesterday in the Star, I could do it for 1/2 that number, and still make a profit!

This whole thread just makes me mad. I try not to look into this crap for this exact reason, it's a total shitshow. All these fucks are getting rich off of us for doing very close to nothing.

LAst thing I was expecting. I wrote to the Sun columnist in frustration at a price of $65,000 for some steps!. didn't expect her to even read it.
