ugh fox headlight question

highbeams work
flash to pass works

regular headlights don't work
fog lights don't work

I removed the headlight switch assembly. I took it apart completely and cleaned everything and tried to figure out how everything works. There is a small silver piece of metal that is bent like a horseshoe that I assume expands when it gets too hot and breaks the connection? That all looked fine. I checked continuity, everything checks out. Still no headlights.

The headlight connector is slightly burnt. I tested and only get power from #3(Power from fuse four) and #5(Main switch power).
Should I be getting power from #1(illumination power) and #2(headlamp power) as well? If so, NAPA autoparts sells a new connector with leads for $30, and I'll get one.

Thanks ZR I'll check that. It's so common with GTs or lx with fogs.

What does a burnt switch look like? From what I could see the switch is just copper pieces with the exception of that bent silver piece I mentioned. I don't understand how this simple switch could be dead unless something is noticeably cracked or out of place.

The headlamp power lead is getting power when the headlight switch is on... but no headlights are shining. What's happening!?

So a previous owner of my car replace one of the connectors in the multifunction switch. They didn't solder the leads... they didn't even use butt connectors. Just wrapped em up in electrical tape. So I was getting power from the connector, but the wires weren't properly attached. I twisted them together just to test and voila. Let there be headlights.

I'll solder or butt connect this weekend. I learned a lesson in finding the fault point in somewhat complicated system of power in my car. At least it was educational.
