This is a "What will you be doing to your truck today" thread, lol. The alternator on the Ram Power Wagon is making noise and smelling burnt so it will need replacing. The choices I have are...

    1- Replace with new Bosch @ $275
    2- Replace with remanufactured unit @ $263
3- Bring to local rebuild shop
    4- Wrecking yard

The rebuild shop indicated they do mostly industrial rebuilds now and seemed to lean towards getting a cheaper "new alternator" instead of repairing mine. Both the new bosch and the reman come with lifetime warranties.

Should I even consider the reman units?

I would go for new, considering a $12 difference.

Had a reman for the Mustang; had to replace it 6 months later...no warranty.

That was my thinking as well...plus I found the Bosch model on Amazon for $100 less.

I just ordered a rebuilt from Carquest with lifetime warranty. Thought I had a Bosch but it was a Denso alternator...a lot cheaper @ $152 + higher amps. Plus that Bosch price on Amazon went up $60 overnight.

You may want to add screws
I had one pop off the rear and happen to find if in my driveway. I reinstalled it but only to loose it a week later somewhere along the way. I guess now I will only have them on the front, which is why I bought them in the first place.
Over all not happy with the no screw mounting idea.
