Despite having just started a new job, new employer was nice enough to honour vacation time I already had planned for the summer. Have the week off and going to be up at the cottage for a good part of it. Off to a good start, beautiful sunset, loons at either end of the lake talking to each other.

The youngest boy came running in the house and said “there is a strange lady on the front yard. She said she was from London and wanted to give Cece (our dog) a treat”

I went down and there is a lady just sitting on one of our logs of firewood

I ask if I can help her and she said. No I’m just walking around.

I said okay but this is private property. She said. It’s very beautiful. (As she proceeds to pull a cigarette out of her purse.)

I said thank you. But is there something I can do for you.

She said no I just have this bad habit and I don’t want anyone to see me.

I said okay but my kids and dog play out here this is MY yard. It’s private property.

She looked shocked and said. Oh you want me to leave.

Yes please. And she walked away

What the hell is wrong with people? What makes them think they have the right to trespass?
