That generation of C63 have head bolt issues. Look it up. The fix ain’t cheap at all, if the motor grenades it’s even more insane.

My dad's had a bunch of Teutonic rockets. Some M cars, now he's on AMG. General experience has shown the BMW stuff to be cheaper to run than the AMG, but he hasn't had a modern M car in 9 years or so.

M cars (up to E92, havent experienced beyond) had much more of a finesse feeling chassis. Excellent handling, high revving, and you could get them with a stick shift.

AMG cars are basically German muscle cars, gobs of torque and loud exhaust, but feel heavier and less quick on their feet.

That said, every German enthusiast car has some form of a poison pill. M156 (N/A 6.2 AMG V8s) engines up to 2011 have the head bolt issue (later models and facelight cars are less affected). The E46 M3 has the subframe issues. BMW Vanos is a fuck show sometimes. Modern AMG bi-turbo cars are maintenance whores (turbos mounted in the valley, WHY) out of warranty.

This all said having grown up with the stuff I wouldn't want to play in that realm unless I felt comfortable devoting several thousands of dollars a year as a maintenance/repair contingency. I ADORE the w211(03-09) E55 and r230 (02-11) SL55. Supercharged V8 monsters, basically the German Terminator Cobra's. But each of those between ABC suspension and hydraulic systems, and general maintenance, are a $2500 a year in M/R costs proposition.
