Not following the trail here, how did that aid contribute to the explosion? Is there a theory/evidence that what exploded was some form of munitions purchased with aid funds?

Sounds like Ammonium Nitrate stored in a warehouse from this long abandoned vessel https://www.fleetmon.com/maritime-ne...rhosus-beirut/ was ignited by welding spark.

That's absolutely irresponsible and criminal to store seized explosive material in a busy port/city for 6+ years (if that is in fact what it was).

If you'd like to believe that it's somehow comforting that:

    - Extremely hazardous materials routinely pass through port cities though means of transit that are generally in poor repair and staffed inadequately
    - Levels of government and their enforcement bodies are so inept that they seize hazardous materials they are in no way equipped to deal with safely
    - Bureaucracies are so overburdened that they can forget/choose not to deal with 3000lbs of volatile explosive materials stored near densely populated areas in a timely matter
    - Such levels of hazardous materials being woefully cared can be well documented through news agencies and still result in nearly no public outcry

Sure, I guess that's the "comforting" storyline we're accepting here? I mean ineptitude is no where near as glamorous as conspiracy but no less terrifying in my opinion.

Wasn’t looking for terrorist related stuff. Just asking as I’m not an explosive expert.

I though ammonium nitrate when it gets wet or breaks down creates nitrous oxide
Which is not a high speed explosion. However if you add certain additives and compress it. It will have a detonation of over 10000 m/second.
