For sure drill a hole, yes many replacements don't have (weep hole).
Silicone only, all I can tell you, done as I posted, we've reduced leaks to within a hair of zero. If your stuck for a gasket, welcome to slide by n pick up a Fel Pro. If you don't have adhesive, bring housing as well.

The position of the weep hole, does it matter? Or do I position it at 12 o'clock?

I always install at the bottom but again, not sure it makes a difference as some do at 12 as you've suggested.

Drill a top and bottom hole then it's a non issue.

I need to buy new o rings/rubber gaskets for intake manifold to heads and for updating the cooling system, + one hose. I was planning of getting a gates hose and using feel pro gaskets. Would you recommend spending the extra for Ford oem?
