    Drone

Has anyone here with an s550 experienced what seems to me to be a drown like sound in the drive train when cruzing around 2000 with almost not load on the engine. To me it sounds as tho it's from the rear and at times sounds like 4x4/tire noise. I find the car to be well insulated from outsiders noise, but it does get my attention - reminds me of my fox - also get dash creaks like the fox - must be a mustang thing...any comments I'm at 23,000k

I should add pp1 Michelin's are on the car - are they typically a noisy tire?

Sounds to me it could be the rear differential. If you have 3.73 gears I believe it could be coming from that. I recall hearing mine from my track pack car.

^^^^ Interesting. The stock 331 gears were replaced by 373's by the previous owner on my 08 GT500 and I get a drone/whirring noise from them. After going onto the GT500 forum on svtperformance.com apparently it's a pretty common thing. Thankfully with the exhaust note, stereo and SC whine....it's not very noticeable.

Lol yes I only really notice it with the radio off and casually cruzing at around 2000 rpms with no load - just wondered if it was tire noise or rear end noise - because at time the Michelin's make weird noise over bumps or stones o the road from time-to-time...so far nothing to really worry about

I thought droning and wurring usually means it was a bad install or it's on it's way out
