I had a bottle of the Basil Hayden last year - was quite nice but I preferred the slightly sweeter Woodford Reserve. Do you consider the BH a keeper based on your experience with bourbons? I hadn't considered the Canadian options like Collingwood before - bottle worthy to try? Say compared to Woodford, Elijah Craig, etc?

Collingwood rye is mellowed in maple barrels, making it smoother and sweeter. The BH dark rye is KY rye, Canadian rye and port blend. It has a softer, sweeter taste and is a nice change. My favorites are Still the Whistle Pig and Nikka rye's.

If you're palate is for sweeter bourbons look to Blantons, Bakers, or Michters. All are sweeter but progressively more expensive.

A good value bourbon is the Knob Creek, which is the bourbon equivalent of the scotch staple Highland Park 12. Both the KC and HP12 hit the sweet spot of value/flavor.

all of the above should be enjoyed neat, without adulteration of ice, water or soda.
Ah got it - I had the BH Kentucky Bourbon but didn't notice the label/juice was a different colour. Yes, palate does lean sweeter so will look for those three bourbons mentioned. Thanks!

Yes, always neat unless it's an Old Fashioned or Manhattan.

Meh- after awhile it all tastes like fire water to me- guess I don’t take “taste” but drink it by the glass

No Ron - pinky finger is only for when you're having tea and finger sandwiches. Sheesh!
