    Gear ratio opinions

I am about to rebuild the 8.8 that will be going in my 1973 ford maverick. 31 spline axles and carrier

The car will be making around 475-500 RWHP with a positive displacement blower.

The transmission is a viper spec T56
    1st gear 2.66
    2nd gear 1.74
    3rd gear 1.30
    4th gear 1.0
    5th gear .74
    6th gear .50

I have a set of 3.73 ford racing gears and a set of 4.10 ford racing gears. Trying to decide which to install.

    Looking for experience and opinions.

Not a bad choice between them.

I’m leaning towards the 4.10 because I will be running a 26” rear tire, but I know that traction will likely be an issue and I don’t want a super short/useless first gear

You might find 6th gear a hit or miss at lower hwy speeds with 3:73.

What do you think first gear will be like with the 4.10?

Same first gear in the Cobra with 3:73, cover a lotta ground before it needs second.

Something to consider, 4.10 gears are usually louder then a set of 3.73 gears. Not really sure why... but that's just how it is.

RPM calculators on web, input transmission, rear gear, tire size makes nice graph for each gear for various speeds to give you an accurate rpm in each transmission gear.
