    Battery recommendation

Current battery was purchased in Sept,2014.
    Exide Performance Series group 58.
Charge it every 2 months for about the last 3-1/2 years since the car is hardly used.
    Takes and holds a charge.

Think I should replace it due to age.Could take a dump anytime.
Who makes a quality lead acid group 58 battery these days?

I have heard the usual stuff post pandemic about batteries manufacturers and how they are made by others and rebranded.
I bought my last two batteries from Costco for less than one OEM from the Volvo dealer. No problems going on 6 yrs now.
If Costco will refund your money if you return the bones from there rotisserie chicken because you "didn't like it".
I wouldn't be too worried on Kirkland brand batteries.
Yes the return of chicken bones does happen.

My belief on batteries may be flawed but I never replace one not showing signs of issues and that tests out ok due to age. I've had good batteries last 8+ years and others crap out a year after purchase.

I have a blue top Exide AGM in my car. Been great no complaints.

I’ll be looking for a new battery soon as well. Still have the original one from 2014 in the car. During some of the -20 winter days it took a few seconds longer to start. Probably just get another OEM from Ed.

I've had Kirkland batteries in several vehicles without issue. They were/are made by Johnson Controls (though I believe Johnson is running under a new name now) one of only a handful of battery manufactures in North America.

mine either slowly decline at the end of their life, or catastrophically fail at the end. The later usually leaves me stranded somewhere.

Agreed with the Kirkland recos. I've used a few of them with no complaints, especially for the price.

My previous battery was identical to the one now.
I replaced it at 7 years still in working order.
Great luck with Exide, but I don't think Partsource sells them now.

Original Motorcraft battery died at 3.5 years and left me stranded as did a top line Petro Canada battery at 4 years. Both gave no prior warning signs.
Just poof,no lights no nothing, totally dead, could not be boosted.

    No Costco membership.
Anyone know of a good automotive battery retailer in the Toronto area?
A place like that would likely have a larger selection of different brands compared to what the usual part stores have.

Bought several at Costco...had issues with one and no hassle getting replacement. Just don't buy CT battery, never happy with them in past.
