    My Garage

    My Garage

Maybe I'm being too literal with this forum section, but i thought I would start a thread here about my actual garage (seeing as little work get done on my car). I hope to update this thread throughout the summer with progress pics.

A little background: The challenge was to fit 3 cars into a 2-car garage. I was given the go-ahead to do anything I wanted so long as my wife's car would still fit in the garage. The bulk of the structural work was performed last summer, with the lift finally being installed late summer.

    Started with this:

Installed a roll-up garage door, some structural steel, new roof rafters, and gutted the existing trusses.

    Then installed a double-wide, four-post lift:

Extended the ramps, installed some floor grating, and built a tire storage shelf above the garage door.

Ok, fast forward to this summer.

One thing I missed from the old setup was the light on the garage door opener. Although not very bright, it was nice to have the lights come on automatically when you got home. The other problem was the lights on the ceiling were now blocked out completely by the lift.
After much deliberation about different door triggers and complicated systems, a simple motion activated light switch was the solution. The motion switch mounted next to the man-door comes on when you enter the garage and/or you open the garage door. It turns on 8 LED puck-lights mounted under the lift ramp. Let me tell you, these suckers are bright! So bright I had to install some diffusers (made from fluorescent light fixture diffuser, cut into puck-size circles, and glued to the LED pucks).
