Shaker 1000 sound system: some questions

I have a new '14 vert with the Shaker 1000 system in it. So far it sounds exactly like the standard system I had in my 12 Vert, except for the huge box of whatever in the trunk. What is the difference supposed to be between the systems? What does it do that the standard system doesn't? What would happen if I took out the box? To be honest I need the trunk space much more than some fancy sound system. I have a tin ear and don't much care for a super duper sound system, expecially if it doesn't do anything in day to day driving.
If I did take it out, does it have any resale value? Can you add it to the standard system? Anyone want to buy it?

well the big box in your trunk would be your subwoofers, If you can't hear a difference between that and the regular system, something is definitely hooked up wrong!!

and sure you can remove them if you don't care for them or use them, would deff. free up some space in the back...

do you have a button on your factory deck to turn the subs off and on? I have one in mine but it's a new edge so not sure if they changed them or not for the 197's

The difference will be overall volume (much louder) and the quality of the low bass notes. If you are not into loud music while you drive, you could remove it to gain the trunk space.

like GR said, there may be a button on your deck that switches it on/off.

Here's a link to the owner's manual. Audio starts on page 120.

Press the SOUND button until SHAKER pops up on the screen (its the first one so just press it once). Underneth SHAKER it will say ON - OFF. If ON is highlighted press the right arrow key and the OFF should highlight, or if its in the OFF position it will go ON. Mine came with it too, kinda like having the base when the windows are down, and the ability to turn it on and off. I imagine you can remove it without any issues. Good luck.

You'll know when its on because you'll be like those annoying kids who drive by with bass rattling everything possible on the car.
For the record I was one of those annoying kids

Shaker 1000 sound system: some questions

I'll trade ya systems I have the shaker500. It's the same system sans trunk sub if I recall correctly.

Edit: it's a "Shaker" system. I guess they don't classify them as 500 and 1000. Just shaker and shaker 1000.

I have a co-worker with the 500 who's having problems. She had to change her battery and since the new one was put in it won't play CD's. I tried a few tricks from another place with no luck. I told her to get a hammer and replace it!! Sucks cause it's only a few years old
I thought it was just a fault code.. I had the same issue with my Mach 460 in the Bullitt but never got my cd's outta it..lol..
