Can't wait until they are sold to the civilian market when a vehicle is retired.

Cool but why does Ford have soooo many different engine options ? Even in the new mustang. Can't be very cost effective whether from a engineering, tooling, supply or even a service / upkeep point of view

Those brakes look like cobra units

That was an interesting website, really enjoyed this section: http://www.ford.com/fordpoliceinterc...dels/#/legacy/

All Explorer Sports with the 3.5 Ecoboost come with those HD brakes and they perform very well.

Wondering of the Springs are different in the Police Explorers?

Ford are very clever to offer both the Explorer and the Taurus, as underneath, they are the same vehicle. They must make some good coin on their Police Program.

My guess is the mfrs main motivation is volume and economies of scale. These are really just other model versions like the Sport etc, they need to make a bunch of them to pay for the development and of course production. Remember the rental car market too - the big 3 used to own (don't think so anymore) most of the rental car co's and sold them a lot of vehicles below cost to show larger production / sales volumes to look better to the shareholders.
