I'd take the vin and get a sellers package to know better who holds legal title.
^Good call, as far as I've been told by mto, the current owner needs to get a new ownership and sign it over to you, that's the only way.

If it was at a wreckers and they turned the ownership in to be scraped ( sometimes they don't) your sol if it's been branded as irr scrap.
Best to run a uvip it will tell ya if it's been branded or who the last owner was (then go talk to jeff at ms he's a artist lol)
bought a chevelle with no paper work one time.. 7 years later it was reported stolen.. lol
