Under drive pullies, good or bad idea?
I was weary of putting a set on my 98 Cobra after reading some stories of oil pump gear failures on 4V cars. I ended up putting on a set of Steeda under drives on last season. without any cooling or charging issues...even ran it down the drag strip shifting at 6500...so far so good! I say yay...just stay away from low quality piggy back style pullies and you should be good.
Considering what you get and the high quality, Steeda's kit seems underpriced to me, great product.
What does "piggy back" mean?
Is March a good brand?
Piggy back means, bolts to your stock balancer in a McGyver-ish kinda way, not good.
One of those times to buy on quality only, Steeda's version.
Ran them on my former 2000 GT, can't fault anything about them. Cringe every time I see the piggy back style.
Thank you all for your help here.
I think I will pass on the non piggy back ones I found.
Best bang for the buck pulley setup for an NA 4v 4.6L and uses stock belt size.
March Performance:
Power Steering Pulley 640-08
Water Pump Pulley 1172-08
Crank Pulley/Damper 1158 and a new crank bolt (OEM or ARP).
I also run the march pullies with a arp crank bolt. 7000 rpm around the road course without issue
