Melted fan plug on my 95 gt

Was out yesterday cruising around and started to smell something burning. Pulled over and popped the hood and the fan motor was smoking. I tried to unplug it and found the plug had melted and was almost impossible to get off. Temps were fine with it working and with it unplugged. What should I be looking for as a cause for this before I go buy another one and the same thing happens?

Semi common problem. At the very least, need a new plug, many times the fan side is also damaged which requires a new fan.

Not sure if Ford sells the plug (give Fast Ed a holler), if not, LMR makes one.

Thanks ZR. Is there an underlying issue I should check into or is it probably just a worn out part? Car has a trick flow top end and 166k so I'm assuming it's just worn out.

Given the high draw of the fan itself, connector is prone to overheating n burning. New connector and or fan and you'll be fine again.

Installed a new connector and fan and the fan isn't turning on. I'm going to check the fuse but if it's fine is there anything else I should be looking at.

Did you manually run power and ground to the fan itself to test?
