have 2 pairs of headers id like to install... a pair of bbk's and i just picked up a pair of hooker ? mid-length...any advantages over either pair ..both pairs i believe are 1 5/8ths...

Are the bbk's full length?
Dave at the power level you are at right now either will be fine, the mid length will still give you the ability to work under the car and to,pull the tranny with minimal hassle. Long tubes become a pain when you have to around them, but they look damn sweet hanging under the car

No advantage power-wise for a basically stock engine, there would be a cost advantage to using the BBKs though since you would probably need to change your mid-pipe to run the Hookers.
shorties will work with the stock h-pipe (or do you have a "y-pipe" in the 84?). mid lengths (and longtubes) will require a new one.
