I have tried search in around to no one answer. I have a 97 gt vert. Stock tail pipes stock rear suspension other then lowered with prokit and kyb shocks. I have 18x10 rear and 18x9 front. I want to go fat in the rear. What is a good tire size combo for these cars. I know sn95 you should be able to fit a 315 or something like that. Thx

315 is a bit squished on a 10" wheel. My suggestion would be 255/40R18 front & 295/35R18 rear if you want the diameters to match fairly closely. Or you could do 275/35R18 & 295/35R18, but the 275 width is pretty big for the front fenders on the 94-98 ... you can end up with a lot of stone chips down the side of the car because of stuff getting thrown off the front tires.

You should really look at the individual tire specifications, as the callouts on here are a waste of time without knowing which specific tire make and model they used.
Huge variance on carcass sizes in the industry; Michelin and BFG typically are big, Nitto and Toyo are smallest. On a big tire size, like a 305, there can be a large difference between makes.

You also need to be concerned with the overall tire diameter, since that will influence your fender clearance. 1st thing I would do is look at whats on the car, and do they rub at all at the ride height? Then write down the actual widths and specs of the wheels and tires. That is your starting point.

Then start surfing the tire specs for OEM fitment: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/SelectTireSize.jsp?autoMake=Ford&autoModel=Mustang+GT&autoYear=1995&autoModClar=

Then look at the tire specs avail in 18" and pay attention to the recommended and ideal rim width, as those are also specific to each tire, not necessarily across the board. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/sizes/results.jsp?diameter=18

Keep a chart and you will quickly get to the OD limits front and rear, as well as the width limitations. You can usually go a half inch narrower or wider on the wheels without too much trouble, unless it's a 20 series tire, lol

Your wheels and offset also influence clearance, plenty of times a 1/4 or 3/8 spacer can make a big difference; altho those are now technically illegal since our gal pal Kathleen Wynne had the MTO certification revisited.

Also; the stickier the tire, the more grip you will get - traction, cornering and braking. Single most impressive / functional performance mod you can do to almost any car IMO. When I installed the 315 NT01's in the rear, the car felt like it had gained 100hp.

A 315 should fit with the right wheels, may have to roll the lips though, laffs runs a 335 BFG with stock tails on a new edge, should be about the same for fitment.
