The driver of a high-end McLaren Spider sports car is facing impaired driving charges after he crashed into a hydro box on a tree-lined residential street in Burlington late Thursday night.
It happened on Oaklands Park Court at around 11:50 p.m.
A passenger in the vehicle sustained non-life threatening injuries in the crash, police say.
Meanwhile, the 23-year-old driver was charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm and over 80 causing bodily harm. He has been held for a bail hearing in Hamilton later this morning.
The crash occurred just a few doors down from the home where the driver resides.
There is a small power outage resulting from the collision and crews are working to restore power to the area.
The damage to the vehicle, valued at about $400,000, is considered extensive.

Apparently the car was purchased/picked up only hours earlier from the dealership.

I think the value of the vehicle was 400k....

Ghost Rider

They are actually only worth about $315K Canadian...maybe the $400K includes damage to the hydro box LOL

and I wouldn't call it a "high-end" McLaren...more like mid range ish it's only a 650 spider :D

I'm sure father will get him a good lawyer. He'll come out of this just fine.

There's a couple of commas in there. The damage to the vehicle is considered extensive. The author thought he would insert the excessive value of the vehicle into the middle of the sentence.

So he picked up the car while intoxicated? Or he picked up the car and went straight to the bar to celebrate?

Start throwing any options at a Macca and the price skyrockets. Carbon and Alcantara trimmings can shoot at 650S in to near 500k levels pretty quick.

Either this teen is a super tech genius or there's an early father of the year award that needs handing out...

I see lots of exotics booting around my area on dry days during the winter.....mostly condo-dwellers who are likely here to go to school on daddy's tab....and I guess daddy is apparently cool with $300-$400k car budgets

impaired or not.....these super-cars are not running winter tires.....so if you tromp on it in sub zero temps...there is gonna be zero grip

that kid had an expensive night....cause his insurance company is gonna tell him to pound salt since he was charged with impaired

so....$355,950 for the car including our beloved 13% HST just got flushed......and now the legal fees start

what a dumbass

There was a kid here going to school who's parents bought him a MP4-12C to drive around in, thing sat parked on a semi sketchy side street by the University most of the time. Then when winter came it never moved and suddenly he had a brand new M5 to use as a winter car. Last time I saw the MP4 the wheels were curb rashed to shit and it was filthy.

no really, I didn't see the commas

as for the cost...your right...I'm sure the first thing the media did was ask him exactly what options he had on the car...

From what I've been reading, the rumor is that the 47yr old passenger was the owner of the vehicle not the 23yr old.

And he handed over the keys to a drunk guy?
Not sure that's better.

My thoughts as well. The penalties for drunk driving/distracted driving need to be way, way, way more severe, these idiots don't give a crap about getting caught because they'll be on the road a day later. But heaven forbid you do a burnout or chirp tires-bam! $5k and car impounded, sounds fair.
