Can't even figure out where to open a pot outlet without fucking it up!!!

Premier Kathleen Wynne is demanding answers on why one of the Ontario government’s first cannabis stores will be located 450 metres from a school in a Gerrard St. plaza.
The Toronto District School Board also has concerns — saying it had asked to be consulted, but was not.
“I would love to know if schools were even considered as part of the equation. I hope they were,” said board Chair Robin Pilkey. “... This is new, and it is an opportunity to do things the right way from the beginning — because once (the stores) are established, it’s hard to go back.
“It all seems not very well thought out.”
Wynne, speaking to reporters Thursday at Mount Sinai Hospital, said she was going to ask staff to find out “exactly how the decision was made.”

“My priority in the implementation of the federal government’s decision (https://www.thestar.com/topic.marijuana.html)to legalize cannabis has been safety. It’s been safety and security particularly for young people,” the premier said. “I just want to know that the school board had input into it. I know there are a lot of factors and in Toronto there are 800 schools so there are schools in many, many, many neighbourhoods.”
Of the province’s other three initial sites — in Guelph, Kingston and Thunder Bay — only the Lakehead school board in the north had any say.
“It was made very clear throughout the process that we did not support a location that was near a school or where young people frequent,” said spokesperson Bruce Nugent, noting the board is satisfied given the closest elementary is three kilometres away and secondary school more than five.

1/2 km away from Blantyre .....not exactly next door.
What is the appropriate distance for a pot store?

edit: Blantyre appears to be the school they are talking about.

If requirement is minimum 19yrs old, whats it really matter.
Just find it funny how they've gone blah blah blah on where n how they'll set up these dispensaries when it would appears to be a disconnect between so many that were suppose to be included in the location discussions. There is no chance in hell this current govt could run a pay toilet without fawking it up and of course loosing money.

Offered to run the system for em but talks broke down when my asking salary of 189K was turned down in favor of their 2.79 million dollar offer.

I do not disagree with this statement.

The pot stores are going to end up somewhere (everywhere eventually), I don't see it any different than the LCBO or the Beer Store. Are we worried about a liquor store 0.5km from a public school?
I still can't see how these stores are going to compete against the "independents".

I agree. In my town they have a satellite LCBO/Beer Store within a few hundred feet of two schools. This local store has significantly less "security" than the regular stores and there have been no issues with underage buying product.

I used to ride my bicycle to a general store when I was 10 years old to buy cigs and beer for my old man... lol things have changed.

Besides it’s pretty easy for kids to buy things much worse than weed at schools... hell i remember being on acid in gym class lol

What difference does it make how close it is to a school? Put it IN the school, who gives a shit....if youre under 19 you cant buy it. Its that simple. Nobody cares how close a school is to a garden center...they sell pesticides that could actually kill you....whats the worst thing thats gonna happen if some kids get a hold of a little pot? The munchies and they go from yelling and screaming little shits to calm and relaxed and the simplest things will literally blow thier minds. Win win imo
