A buddy of mine just picked up an 85 GT with T-tops. Problem is the tops are locked and the car didn't come with the keys to unlock them.

By chance, does anyone have the key number 254, which a copy can be made from? Last resort I guess he'll need to get a locksmith, which he would like to avoid.

Thanks in advance!

That sounds like a sweet car. Good luck with finding the keys. Any chance the dealer may sell them? Might be worth a shot.

If anybody has a coffee can full of keys it would be Twister.

Laurence,
Sweet car it is! All original with 40K on it, needs a few little things to be perfect. First call was to Ed regarding the issue with the keys, sadly it's out of his hands.

Rick, much appreciation for the link!

Thanks guys,
Anthony

The options don't appear to be many. A locksmith seems to be the popular reply on a search. Some have said that you can just force the handle down thru the lock. Others that you could just drill out the lock.

I remember in my 87 GT with the t-tops I never even used the locks at all.

A search of some of the bigger parts suppliers for older Mustangs doesn't mention t-top locks, just doors, hatches, gloveboxes and ignition.

The link Rick provided has all the info needed for a qualified locksmith to cut the keys, hopefully!
Lets see what happens.

Thanks guys.

When Fabio called yesterday I'd suggested FEP as potentially a good place for info on that ... nice find by Rick.

Sorry that I wasn't able to help very much in this case. Never owned a T-top car myself, for what I do with them it likely wouldn't go well. LOL

If twister doesn’t have it then try either Jeff at Mustang Specialteaz or Zephyr Mike, who I believe now has his own fox body parts yard in Burlington.

After calling about 15 locksmiths, only one guy said he would be able to cut a key for $80. A couple of days go by, I get a text this morning my buddy said he got the T-Tops unlocked. Of all keys, the one from his tool box did the trick. LoL!

Anyone know if the original T-Top keys had the Ford logo stamped on them?

Thanks
