Rechargeable lawnmower...

My 25+ year old Craftsman mower is getting a little long in the tooth so I'm looking at new ones. Convince me why I should or shouldn't get a rechargeable unit. If it matters, my yard isn't very big, maybe a 1000 sq.ft. of grass to be cut.

I have a wireless greenworks mower that I've used for a few years. Couldn't be happier and don't need to get gas, oil etc. Virtually no maintenance and will do my whole yard (68x131) I have two batteries in my mower, so they last quite a bit and rotate them to make sure I don't run out of juice.

My dad is on his second. First lasted 10 or so years, would have kept it but a replacement battery wasn't much less than a new one. Does his decently sized suburban lawn (mid 1980s Ancaster) on a charge. No cord hassle, never worry about gas, no pull starting, quiet, no exhaust smell. Only downside is that it doesn't have the power to go through really long grass as well as a good gas one. It'll do it, but you'll be wanting to do a second pass if it's too long.

My Dad's is now going on 7 years and is still on the same two batteries and he has a mutant lawn that forces him to cut it 3x a week. (good thing he's retired)
When my 22 year old Husqvarna dies (which it wont) I'll be buying the Green Works.

The model you've pictured is the one i have. Really happy with it. Agree with the above, doesn't do an amazing job on long grass, but does well with the weekly mow.

I love not smelling like like the exhaust from a gas mower when I'm done cutting the grass.

A nice feature of the cordless Greenworks mowers (and maybe other brands) is that they ramp up in RPM when you hit longer, thicker grass and ramp back down when less load on the blade.

I'm totally sold on the cordless mowers for all the reasons I've mentioned in the thread and more.
Another nice feature is with the handle folded the mower can be stored in an upright position which can be a nice feature if storage space is an issue.

MY neighbor keeps borrowing my gas mower cuz his battery ones keep failing. He has gone through 2 in the last 4 years. the batteries just don't last. Not sure what he is doing tho

I'm pretty sure that was the case. A lot of people still believe in the battery memory of the batteries of yesteryear. He was prolly running it flat on purpose then charging full. But these batteries need to be in the 20%-80% range

I used to swear by old lawnboys, then i got sick of mixing fuel. So i bought a Honda. Its had 2 decks and wont die. Left it outside all winter, came out one day maybe a month ago, pulled it twice and she fired right up. Electric stuff just bugs me....i cant bring myself to try an electric mower. I let my grass get too long for one of those, i need the power of a gas engine lol

The ol' Craftsman won't die. I didn't think it was going to survive this season, but it just keeps chugging along. It takes a pull or three to start, and smokes a little but it just keeps going. I guess I'll use it until it dies.
