Still trying to find "my" mustang...savings account starting to add up, son has a few more years in college (hopefully, lol) and I need something to wrench on. So I started to look around for one with an automatic transmission. I love the manual, but in my situation, and auto is required. Don't have many choices up here and a few came up on our local sale lots. I'm 6'5" with long legs and was aiming for a 2005 coupe until I tried one...

2004 convertible...comfortable
2005 coupe...ok except that my right leg is uncomfortable against the console
2014 coupe...comfortable

So what happened between 2005 and 2014? The interior specs seem to be the same. Did the console change to provide more room? Maybe something was wrong with the 05 I tried?

Any help will be appreciated!!

Not sure about dimensions unfortunately. However i will say seats make a world of difference, my car with factory seats I felt like I was sitting on the car and too close to the column. Now with some good aftermarkets its a night and day. Perhaps try finding a club member with some good aftermarket seats in an S197 and see how it fits you.

That's a good idea, except that club members are far away!! But, I'll keep my eye open for S197's in the area but I suspect they have factory seats.

Ya, may have to wait for one that's within a days drive to confirm. I'll say if it's tight on the high side, my new seats and rails dropped me about 1.5-2in for reference.

6'2" in a 2006 GT and no seating issues. Did the one you test drove have power seats? If so, were you able to adjust the rake as well as the fore and aft movement?

Yes, it did have power seats. I adjusted the seat max. aft and rake was adjusted as well. The driver's seat was almost touching the rear seat, lol.

I’d say it has to do with the console being square in the 05. The earlier and later models it’s tapered towards the bottom where your leg would be.

Initially found '05 up console annoying as well, more I drive more I don't notice it. Recaro seats in those cars totally transforms the experience.

^^^Good, so I'm not the only one that noticed this! So I guess the hunt now includes an 05 with recaros

That would explain it.

So I'm looking at a 1998 Mustang GT, auto and with 155,000 kms ...I know it's not the 04 I was aiming for, but the price is very good. Only problem is the guy installed a powered sunroof, so not sure how that's going to affect my decision. I was also researching the auto transmission...I'm I correct in assuming it is the same one that's in the 2004? Late Model Restoration says it the same tranny from 1996 to 2004.

If the sunroofs ok for you, just make triple sure it's dry and secure.

Sunroof wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. But as stated confirm the installation looks professional and no signs of water intrusion. If it was done from new or near new and hasn't given much issue chances are it isn't a complete bodge job, however my concern would be locating parts for a 3rd party sunroof if gears, switches, tracks, etc start to have issue.

Transmission is the same (4R70W) throughout the SN/New Edge run with minor changes to electrical hookups, vss connections, etc. Most aftermarket parts for them are universal to that year range.
