No doubt that is the pinnacle of the Supra. But for me, this is Supra

I had a ‘83 Celica GTS, basically the coupe version of this car. Loved it. Such a fun car to drive.

My autoshop teach had this exact car. 1984 Celica Supra black with a 5spd. I tried to buy it off him all the time. Wanted to swap a 7MGTE in it. Memories.....

There's a mint one of these running around between Orangeville and Brampton exactly like that - I have a buddy auto-crossing a right hand AE86 that has some nice mods

I had a red '84 Celica GTS, brand new, then a red 85 Supra, a blue 87 Supra turbo, and a blue 89 Supra Turbo targa. All bought new. They were all great cars. The Targa was the most fun of all.

Then I discovered American V-8's.

As far as looks go, the new Supra is a little generic(looks a bit like a Genisis coupe), a little overblown, nicely proportioned, with an interesting nose. Probably mid 60's in price. Unless available as a convertible, I'll force myself to stay with a mustang.

I remember reading that the engineers designed the car with a 2J swap in mind, they said “a 2jz swap will be very easy for the owner to do”, or something similar to that.
I like the car, the design is very nice and stylish, but nothing can replace the though of what a Supra is in my head, that will never change.

I like it, I think it’s great looking on the outside, formula 1 front end and aggressive shoulders. The back to me is reminiscent of the Shelby Daytona coupe, shorter version.

The original Supra was introduced as competition to the Nissan/Datsun Z car. All the amenities in the car mirrored the Z, although the engines were clearly better in the Supra.

I think you need to look at the market they are targeting, for pricing etc. Are they competing against the 370Z or going for a lower end supercar? The 370Z is getting long in the tooth and isn't as popular as the older Zs, so I feel they are going after the low end supercar. Having said that, the horse power rating is no where near where it needs to be. 382 is almost attained by an ecoboost Mustang and the 2019 370Z is rated at 350hp in Nismo version. I think it needed to be at least between 450 and 500 to generate the interest they are hoping for.

Just my observations.

Now that Alfa looks great.

Personally the thing I like most about the new Supra is that it is so generic that I have no desire to own one...and that makes me appreciate my Mustang GT just that much more. :-)

I agree with you but if they are targeting the low end super car market they are making a mistake.

supra has a cult following mostly by a younger generation. that fan boys over the FF style, twin turbo 1000hp ant beats anything on the road. off the line this was never the supra. the 350 market is where they need to be for sales, but the fan boys don't like it.

I think it will sell at least as well as the Subaru/Toyota BRZ/86. A lot of those guys will be looking to move up and this will likely be the one they choose, especially since Nissan hasn't been doing much with the 370 for the last forever years.

Very true. Not really much in the import sport coupe market without getting into the likes of BMW, merc and Audi. And the price that goes along with it. From a sales/ business stand point. Keeping it cheaper seems the best move

I think that’s right inline with the Nissan. So good price point.

In-laws have a 370 and love it. Aside from the higher cost of some of the maintenance items like brakes.

But funsports car. Decent price and Toyota reliability should be a winner.

Edit: didn't realize that was 40-45 American. for sure more than the Nissan.

I was just going by experience of friends and clients. It seems the Toyotas are much more reliable.
Older BMWs can cost a fortune if not maintained regularly.

Could come back to bite them if it dosnt hold up to the normal Toyota reliability.

Truthfully haven’t been following the new supra. Was it a joint build or just borrowed parts?

Had a buddy complain constantly about maintenance when he had his bimmer - I don't have much interest in imports of any kind - if I had the cash I would buy a Porsche. My biggest beef about car manufacture's is where was this thing the last two decades - I really dislike when a model is dropped and then resurrected from the dead - must be a big let down to those who where diehards also the MR2 - occasional models...? - and it's not just the Supra there are many. Probably why I would buy a Porsche - was always there for their fans. Mustang is another always there...I think the success of these two brands was longevity and loyalty...the car to me (supra) looks pretty generic and nothing that peeks my interest...

I think it's a fail! At that price point it's a serious turd. For the same money you could have a gt350. Also, being a Toyota tech I'm getting tired of these joint ventures. Seems everytime Toyota teams up with another manufacturer the reliability isn't there. But maybe I'm just bitter from having to replace valve springs in the junk Subaru engines in the FR-S lol

My beater is a first gen Tacoma - the truck is a piece of junk-but the engine a tranny are amazing only lacks in power and tork - gas mileage is very good and if it was a six speed the fuel mileage would be amazing - the frame is swiss cheese with a huge crack and the sway bar is only held on by the end links, frame mounts rotted and broke off and the brakes suck, tires near bald. I drive it everyday and in the last four months have not put one drop of oil in that engine or added anti freeze. well over 20,000 kilometers. I almost feel guilty not changing the oil. If the frame doesn't break in half and it makes it thru the winter I will keep it for a yard truck! My point of all this is the Toyota engine is amazing for longevity close to 300,000 on it. Not sure why companies are collaborating...?

To offset the cost of what will be a relatively low production vehicle in comparison to Toyota’s other models. It’s a smart move and there would have likely been no new Supra had this collaboration not happened.
