View Full Version : Sad To See It Come To An End.....

Some of you guys may have already heard that the GTAMC will be shutting down for good come February 2019 which is very sad but time takes no prisoners but it was a great place to be back in the day when there was only one forum Mustang club and none of this social media nonsense.

There were a ton of events and lots of members attended them because if you owned a Mustang and knew how to use a computer the GTAMC was the place to be in Ontario, I joined in 2005 and quickly made lots of enemies but at the same time made way more friends, I was honored to be asked to be a club moderator and then a Director of the club. It was fun running the Grudge Day event for 3 years and TMC gladly picked up where the GTAMC left off with that event.

It will be a sad day in the GTA when the GTAMC shuts down and I'm sure the 95% or more who are members of both clubs will agree with me that club will be missed and the charities that it supported will also miss the club but TMC has not missed a beat so now that there will be only one forum club again it can only get better.

Please share your greatest memories of the GTAMC and don't turn this into a hate or political thread please.

Too bad, but it was clear nothing was really going on there anymore. I too think it will make the TMC stronger.

I had no idea, but of course, the writing has been on the wall for a while now.
I also joined in 2005, and really, I miss the LNLC, there was a real sense of family there for a long time.

I still have my GTAMC membership card. Definitely a great place, lots of great memories, really enjoyed all the events.

Never liked the politics, and understand the split, and was a member of both forums for a long time. Cut the cord completely once Manaccia became a mod. LOL, sorry Lou, like you as a person, didn’t like you as a mod. Glad you’re here, not as a mod, LOL. I was a mod there for a while. Didn’t like the job, so I quit.

Anyway, enough of that as you said. My best memory of the GTAMC was the rally where my best friend Raoul and I placed third. Will always cherish that day. Miss ya buddy.

I was there from day one. The mission statement of the club was "a place for all Mustang enthusiasts", regardless of year, body style or engine type. Lots of laughs, some arguments, and unfortunately some tears when we lost a member to the great Mustang club in the sky. We put on some great shows, cruises and track events. One of my favourite memories was the cruise to Niagara Falls and the tour of the generating plant (thanks Office Glenn). Goodbye GTAMC, and thanks to all that made it happen.

GTAMC got my feet wet with mustangs waaay back when I was in high school.. then I signed up when I bought my fox. It's been slow there for a while.

But hey.. we got a good thing going here.

I think I joined back in 2004 or 2005, I think I still have my membership card as well. :-)

Fondest memories for me were the annual BBQ and the grudge day at Cayuga. Remember when the smack talk thread was in full swing...a few meat heads took that too far but for the most part it was all in good fun.

It’s a shame to see what it became but this news really wasn’t very surprising for some of us who have been around a long time. The good news is that most of my favourite members migrated here and this has become a great place to continue to share information and our enthusiasm for the car hobby.

GTAMC jumped the shark a long time ago.....was all down hill after Rick ZR left to start his own show over here....Rick and I havent always seen eye to eye but IMHO he did a far superior job of running the joint then any of the folks that were left behind over there.....was just a matter of time before that place came tumbling down....

Tons of amazing memories and made so many lifetime friends along the way over there, hard to see it on the decline the last few years but as Lou said and my back will confirm, time takes no prisoners. When your on any web site and come away thinking how well it runs and how much you enjoy it, chances are, just like here, great team behind the scenes working to make it happen. No different back in the day over there, terrific club.
GTAMC you will be missed, thanks for posting it up Lou.

2002 for me.
A fond memory for me was hosting a small little LAMC car show in 2003 and having a convoy of GTAMC Mustangs showing up was epic.
Modifications that London had never seen the likes of. I still had my mostly stock 99 Cobra lol.

The power plant tour was amazing where I had half our group thinking I was GUY CAR.
The online fights between the admins and LUCKY. The first LNLC drag (night).
So many memories.

RIP

Few fav pics from over the years.
Richards verty looking might fine leaving the Stampede show.
Rosco doing a fine job.
Yes thats the '90 Titanium Silver hatch I owned when I first joined, shot is at the picture shoot we had north of the city.
Ok so everyone's first thought, how fast was Rick going to get everyone pulled over. However, accident had the road closed and we had to turn around, wasn't me this time.
Last one, I may have allegedly participated in / instigated this one with a three car pull down Woodward Ave, Scott B got the worst of it but Warren and I split the ticket with him. Was funny as hell afterwards, during, not so much. LOL

Bob during our last time at Woodward.
Sorting out the Cobra, way back when, even with the hood off the fawker would still run too hot, all solved now though.
Stephen showing us how it's done.
Only shot I have of Don, wish I had more, anyone else have one?

Don't forget we all met over there........so it's place in the history books is epic for sure. End of an era for sure, and in it's full swing and hey day, there would be hundreds of cars at every event.

Clearly lots of memories and for some, lots of "baggage" that appears to still be lingering, but all in all we are all better for the experience.

I'm not as active anywhere anymore, but I still enjoy logging on and hearing about peoples journey and latest and greatest.

I did my share of giving back and events, running grudge for 4 years as well, always making sure to respect the origins of how it started and who started it.

Learned everything I know about Mustangs, and learned a hell of a lot more about people in the process. Grew up along the way.

My greatest memories:

Woodward, which is still top of my agenda every year.
Summer BBQ back when I was a knob polishing cobra guy.
The stalwart friends I've made.
The technical knowledge I've gained.
The laughs and a few epic drunken nights.

Life moves on.......but the journey continues.

So many great memories of the GTAMC.

Joined in 2007 after picking up my 2006 GT.

I still remember being really nervous going to my first meet up. Then the guys invited me over and made me feel welcome.

My first time going to Woodward was an amazing experience. Cruising down to MI with a group of stangs was epic. Had my first drive in a Cobra when Darkhorse was gracious enough to invite me along for a cruise to get some supplies.
Losing to Darkhorse after a "spirited" run in his stock auto S550 while I was in my old blown 06. Totally caught me by surprise!
The ticket incident...was freaking out at the time, but the cop turned out to be really cool. First words was "you won". Lol. Gave me an impeding traffic ticket so it wouldn't affect my insurance - wasn't going to argue.
Driving Rick's Cobra was one of my coolest Mustang memories. That car pulls hard!
Loved going to the Henry Ford and Chrysler museums and in general taking in the sites with a convoy of awesome Mustangs and peeps.

The annual BBQ's. They were always a blast.
Weekly meetups at Pete's, Brampton or at Kennedy Commons. Was a great way to end the week hanging with good friends with cool cars. Was always fun to see what the latest mod was.

Who remembers Blue Pauls (I think that was his username)? JuMpYs chipmunk rant?

I've made long lasting friendships with amazing people that continue today and that is solely because of the GTAMC. I'll always be thankful.

I think we all knew the days were numbered for GTAMC which is sad. I've been around since 2004 and also still have my membership card as many others do. I've met a ton of great people and been a part of the many crazy memories and events being discussed. Many of those great people are still a part of the scene, some have moved on and some are no longer with us (RIP to them all). Was one of the first members over there and recall going to a meet in 2000 (I think) at the Hooters on Keele Street. Some good people there who did good things for Mustang enthusiasts but it appears it has continued here. Other social platforms like Flakebook and Instagramma have taken over so it is tough to compete.

On another note "Got To Ask Mom Club" became too heavily moderated for my liking and there was no real meaningful mediation if you had an issue with a board sponsor. Lots of sponsor ball-washing and protection went on there.

I have to say this is the first forum I've joined - I wasn't looking for it or for a club pre-say. I'm not going to say I've never been on a forum, I've checked out many - doing research ultimately I was directed to many forums. I came to TMC mainly just looking for parts. In the past while I was reading information on other forums I found most of them to be misinforming. (blind leading blind kinda thing) After nosing around this site I began read a lot of cool things and some fantastic cars builds, but what really hooked me was the Grudge Wars and the fun leading up to it. I didn't really understand how it was put together or organized but new it was cool. And then I found track days and thought wow this is great, I may be able to go to the track and see what it's like. I have yet to be on a road course, always messed around on the streets. There are other clubs around that organize track days and racing eg. time attack that are sanctioned (I guess more or less) and say everyone is welcome we want to build a race strong community, but when it is pursued it becomes less inviting, uninspiring, and more of a who's who and what's what kind of thing and do you really want to attract newcomers. I don't understand that thinking and think developing a good solid race community will be the way of the future for enthusiasts but to me it seems kind of being held back. I really don't understand what a forum is, how it works, the ranks, what it is for, but reading what all the contributors have to say left me with a sense of real community and place where like minded people can come together and share thoughts, ideas, and information. I'm glad I joined and look forward to getting out to some of the events this summer. back to track days - my goal in life is to build and own my own race car, my son is on the same page but still young, I'm very bent on re-inventing and prototyping things and love the proto-type racing and hope one day this can be done at an amateur level. It's almost there with Chump Car. I'm here now at the TMC and maybe this is the place to help bring all this together there is certainly enough quality people here and I'm glad to be a part of it and feel welcome.

agree with you 100%......any forum taking money from a company as sponsorship is wrong imo, just to many protections included for that money....if a sponsor does you wrong you should be able to voice it and talk about it out in the open and let everyone judge the matter...i think a better idea is charge members a yearly user fee like $10/mth $120 a year, if any forum means enough to you then its easy to pony up....id have no problem with a user fee for any of the forums im on....power of the internet has a a great effect on a business but not if problems are sorted out behind closed doors...

I agree. The $12/yr here is stupid cheap. Like seriously stupid. I don’t know about $120/yr, but I definitely would not object to doubling or tripling the membership to like $40. I spend that much at wing night every couple of weeks, lol

Not many people volunteer to be a club supporter for a reasonable yearly fee - tough call when other social media is free of charge - not sure how a board like this is financed but a lot of things get posted and sold free of charge, a lot of good info, networking, and advice that some may be less likely to share elsewhere - sponsorship is important if all other options are free. I see close to 2000 members here that may rise sharply - yearly volunteered "Club Supporter" fee may be enough...if sponsorship problems cant be resolved without airing it for everyone else to see... I would think most business' want to resolve problems especially in online. I wouldn't want to deal with complaints publicly it's usually not handled in an adult reasonable diplomatic fashion and everyone ends up being the loser.

I remember first finding the place after CMOC (oh theres another one) way back before I had a Mustang and was researching at the time SN95's vs LT1 F-bodies. Anyhow I choose wrong and a year later decided to fix my mistake and signed up for GTAMC while I was looking for a car. Found mine and immediately went to town on the classifieds. A lot of the parts on my car today came from the GTAMC classifieds, and I'm sure it hadn't been for ZR and many other helpful posts in the tech forum of GTAMC I would have lit the car ablaze myself already.

Can't say I'll miss it daily, but it does have some good memories.

^I was pretty active on the CMOC, even had the stickers on my blue fox Gt. In its heyday it was a good club, the gtamc was a bit goofy at that time so I was there a lot. I’m pretty sure Warren, the guy who started that club (White_Snake) was on gtamc too, man that place had a huge reach.

I hope all of these posts about how we all met on the gtamc will breathe some life back into this forum.
Here we are posting about how great it was, yet even here it’s not what it used to be.
We need to save this, myself included. I used to post all the time and lately I’ve been just a lurker.
But if we all just lurk then there is nothing to read.
What ever happened to Dr. Toronto posting a new car every 3 months that was a good read.
We can’t expect Heinz to do it all on his own.
What’s going on in the ZR garage?

I'm on several social sites and subscribe to several blogs. I don't spend much time on them lately. Some of my interests (eg. custom motorcycles) has seem to become saturated with info and trends, and band wagon jumpers trying to promote something, to the point, I stopped reading popular blogs, stopped spending a lot of time on social sites on the subject, and even cut back on my participation of building custom bikes. It seems to me that social sites like FB and Instagram have become mainly entertainment value and have lost other forms of effectiveness due to saturation. On Fb there are some good mustang pages but little content, how many pictures of Fox bodies can you look at. At times there a lot of posts for sale but no way to really organize it for when one is ready to buy. I think forums like this one are good for a localized social environment, that may not really be available on other media because of the wide range audience. - Social media sites aren't bad, because you can effectively drive people, to other sites like this forum or websites. Of all the social media out there I get more traffic to my website with FB. But FB is world wide and is difficult to create a local following on FB. Forums like ours create a more local presence. (it has taken me a long time to realize this). I don't think the forum idea is lost in the sense - but may be lost in the sea of social sites. I think a strong presence of FB and Instagram could ultimately drive more traffic here. I'm not sure what goes into setting up a forum, but if there's one suggestion I could make that would be to update the pages and bring the look of the layout out of the '90's computer era....if that is entirely possible.

I was shocked to hear what has transpired.
I joined the GTAMC way back in 2000. I was member # 35. I was at my first car show and someone approached me and asked me to join. It was free, so what the heck.
I learned about Joe DaSilva, who personally did my shifter and gears in my 99 GT. I met Rick, and Scott, and Fab (I was blown over when I saw his supercharged car: in 2000 400+ horsepower from a 2valve motor was amazing). I went to the first mod motor blow out drags in Ohio, (organized by Scott). Driving down the highway in the U.S. one of 25 0r 30 Mustangs in a convoy, blowing (loudly) by all the Yanks ogling us was an amazing moment,We went 3 times, and I still remember the pizza dance. Going with the club the first time to Woodward was something of a transcendent experience. BEing part of the group, laughing, talking, trading car story's, and participating in that awful restaurant that couldn't serve 30 of us properly, Well you just don't get that with a Hyundai!!
I was personally fluffed up during a dyno run with my 03 Cobra. It was the first 03 delivered in the city, and everybody from the club was blown over when it turned out 370 hp, stock. Then Scott took off my air filter and the car screamed it's way to 400 horses.
I remember one year where the club had TWENTY ONE events. I think I made it out to 14 of them. It was exciting.
Then with Joe's encouragement my son opened a small business selling Mustang parts. It got us to SEMA that year, but unfortunately not much farther.

I remember going to coffee nights when 20-30 guys would show. It was an exciting time. There were some bad times, too, (my son and Steeda got into a fight) but overall it was a wonderfull experience.
The best was building up my youngest son's 89 Notch. Rick did all the work, converting it from a 4 cylinder slushbox to a proper 5.0 with 4 wheel disks. Still have that car after 14 years, although it's been sitting in the barn for a while.
The current TMC is much better behaved, more moderate, and lots of fun, but I will remember the GTAMC with love and fondness.

It could be my fault the GTAMC is shutting down , since I have stopped posting bad ass truck builds and mudding videos..lol. I do still have the army truck and need to start on that someday.

I joined in 2004 and have visited the site almost daily. I went to 1 or 2 events a year due to me being so far away. I'm bad with faces and don't see you guys very often, but someone usually recognizes me or says.." arent you that guy from north bay?" Anyways..lots of good memories on that forum.

Joined the GTAMC in 2004 when I had my first Stang a 1994 Saleen Clone and have been lurking ever since, I don't post a lot but I enjoy the tech information and reading about builds and seeing what I missed during events throughout the year.

Loved it when I was able to make it out to the different events, one of my fondest memories was when I went on the Sunset Speedway Cruise in my 00 GT and I was just in awe that I was cruising with real deal Cobras and other awesome rides...lol...later I ended up with my dream car a Black 2004 Cobra :dragster: Since then I have sold the stangs but still enjoy cruising in the Lightning.

Meet a ton of great people and hope this site continues to run for many many years to come.
