Went there with the wife for quick lunch, 2 teen burgers, 2 onion ring and 2 mugs root beer , Near $27.00 , WTF, food is garbage, the best part was the root beer ! A & W your off my list !

The price isn't outrageous. I paid ten bucks plus tax for a Wendy's bacon classic combo the other day. Sub in the onion rings and your price seems right in line. For the record, I like A&W burgers.

$14 an hour to flip that burger, drop those rings in the fryer and fill those Root Beers. What did anyone think was going to happen.

Eat what ya want when ya want, get a drink without waiting and it its very reasonably priced.

Don’t mind the A&W burgers but don’t love their fries and onion rings. The fries and rings used to be good a very long time ago but changed some where over the years. Root beer is still my favourite.

For fast food burgers, I think Wendy’s may be best (and love their chilli) but if it’s close I will splurge and take the kids to the Burgers Priest...so good...

Sign up for the coupons at A&W website and that 2X teen burger combo is about $14 I think.

Don't most combos at the fast food restaurants run around $10-$12 now with tax? The meat at A&W is likely better than at their competitors in this lower end price segment (A&W, Wendys, McD, Harveys, BK, Taco Bell, etc).

Who knows what that stuff is? Grade D? Swept up off the kill floor and treated with ammonia to kill the bugs? McDs and BK and others used to buy this "meat"...not sure who buys it now but it's still being sold to food companies for burger meat....there is a reason some food is cheap.

I like A and W but will usually just get the burger, not a meal. As for Swiss Chalet, I don’t go there hardly at all. I used to love it as a kid. Now I just hurry home to get to the bathroom.
As for Costco, my kids will even ask to go out for lunch there! Lol. Their chicken fingers with fries are really good!!

I just started the "Keto" diet. Super low carbs (5-7% of your calories), High Fat (70-75% of your calories) and the rest is Protein. Tough initially due to the carb cravings, but now starting to adjust (on it approx. 2 wks.). Already dropped a couple of pounds and find myself with more energy and also my bum left hip seems to be complaining less (mild osteo arthritis). Looking to stay on this for the next 90 days with a goal of dropping about another 10 lbs and get down to 165lbs., at which point I'll likely ease up a bit on the super low carbs.

Oh my, saw St Hubert in this thread and suddenly crave my favourite. Yes “Q” which was once St Hubert still serves up really good chicken. I know the owners and he has a arrangement somehow with St Hub for their chicken source.

What I miss most from “home” is 2 hot dogs, all dressed with fries and a Pepsi. I think still less than 10 bucks.

Just so long as you don’t look in the kitchen.

I go to the Chinese food court near my office on occasion. It’s really cheap, especially for the amount of food you get. Like hot dogs (I like a good hot dog) don’t ask what’s in it.

I blame all the gourmet burger places for the price hike. People have accepted the price of a “good” burger. It has provided headroom for fast food burgers to raise their prices.

Drove past the A&W on Hwy 50 this afternoon and looks like there's a promo for the the Mama Burger with cheese (not processed cheese) for $2.99. Not sure how long it's on for.

And, not going anywhere near hot dogs - haven't touched them in a couple decades.

Sugar/salt listed in the first 5 on the ingredient list? MSG in that or just salt for flavouring?

I don’t know Richard ? lol
(Maybe I should read the label)
I just felt like having chicken like at St Hubert since we don’t have the restaurant anymore.

But yes salt is number 5, sugar number 6 - no msg
Oh well I drown the chicken in that stuff

Can't much help prices these days. Everything is going up except my profits.
For the record: 5 Guys makes a good burger and has delicious fries. Burger Priest is pretty damn good. The Works has a great variety. Big Boy's on Bayview (he's a Mustang guy) is very nice.
A&W, McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's, they are all pretty much the same: mediocre. Of the "Fast food" outlets, Harvey's has the best burger and onion rings. South Street, and the like: not so much.

I like A&W. the frosted glass root beer rocks. They are also the most healthy of the really nasty chains now (wendy, BK, McD)

I like for the price point and the value, Five Guys is the best around.

The high end places are OK....but not worth it to me.

Taco Bell and Swiss Chalet's biggest problem is they can't keep any place clean enough to want to eat there anymore.
