Hey everyone.

I admit that I haven’t posted in a long time.....

Many ppl consider me a ‘Mustang Guy’, as I owned a ‘89, ‘07 and ‘12. However, I’ve also owned 2 Camaros as well.
Back in 2016, I wanted to replace my ‘12 Mustang GT.
I looked at the Mustang, Camaro and Challenger.

As the new 6 gen Camaro offered items that you couldn’t get on the Mustang (HUD, active exhaust, reconfigurable dash, etc.) I bought the Chev.
Since the Mustang’s revision in 2018, I find myself torn, as the Stang now has a lot of the available features that the Camaro had.

So, I am thinking about picking up a used 2018 Mustang, and selling/trading my 2017 Camaro 2SS.

Question: Who has driven a 2018/19 Mustang as well as a 2016+ Camaro? I love the Camaro’s torque, and I know that the Mustang is a little down on torque in comparison.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks, Paul.

what is the camaro torq. mustang is rated at 420 I believe - I just purchased a 2018 GT but never drove the camaro - to be totally honest when I purchased mine in December it was spontaneous and I skipped at least four gens - so I'm totally in awe of the 2018

2018 Mustang GT is a blast to drive. Lots of power, great handling and cool styling. Absolutely love mine.
Try one with the performance pack, magneride and the 10 spd auto and you won't want to get out of it.

455 hp and 455 lbft of torque. This Camaro is a beautiful machine. Comparing it to the 2019 is not on the same page. It’s like the 2019 Camaro got hit with an ugly stick.
Here is vertfiveoh’s car along with my old beast.

I'll tell ya, current ride you've got there is flat out gorgeous.

Both nice machines but it always comes down to 2 factors: money and want...

If you drive a new GT and have to have it then put yours for sale...then decide if you are going to take a financial bath on the Camaro that you are willing to accept then your decision is made.

Either way you already have a nice toy (and Mustang still doesn’t have HUD which is really silly IMO)

That is true Fabio. I am really surprised that so many cars still don't have this feature as a standard. It does work quite well. I wish my M2 had this feature.

I'm so old school, I had to look up what HUD was.

Seems you're in a no lose situation, keep an awesome car or sell it and buy an awesome car. If money is not a big concern and the camaro honeymoon is nearing its end, I'd do the mustang only because it'll be new and different and that's always exciting.

glad you looked it up - are you going to share the info with the other old schoolers...lol

Hi Guy/Gals.

I understand that this is a Mustang forum, so opinions will be biased.
Was really hoping that someone would have experienced both the 16+ Camaro as well as an 18+ Mustang.

As far as selling/trading, I’d likely look for a slightly used 18, in order to minimize any deficit difference.

Anyhow, I will likely drag my friend Scrape out to test drive a Mustang.

Will let you know if/when I make a move.

My Camaro is a great car. If I keep it, I won’t be upset or have any regrets at all.

Cheers.

You know that we will be doing a few test drives no matter what. Now we have to wait for spring to arrive.

Thanks. My Camaro is a 6 speed. I love it, but the Mrs. is never able to drive it, as she can’t drive a stick. Not that I need to worry about her ability to drive it too....however, that new 10 speed Auto has me interested. So, I’d likely go with an Auto the next time.

PP2 does look good but a manual transmission only. I still say keep the Camaro. :stickpoke:

Traitor!
Just kidding. Actually agree keep the Camaro for now, New Mustang great car but I don’t think enough to warrant a trade and may have to add some coin too.

from reviews I've seen the pp2 package performs better shifting on a road course with the 6spd compared to the pp1 with the 10spd auto. Don't know for sure but maybe the 10 spd could be retuned to work different on the rod course?

From what I read the Performance Pack cars (either 1 or 2) do not have sufficient cooling to handle the road courses. Infact I recall reading somewhere that a PP2 car overheated when it was being tested around a road course. I need to find this article.

I read about a guy overheating his 2015 coyote and cooked the engine doing a brake stand burnout...think I'm just goin to wax mine and get a carnauba buzz!! lol then beat on the fox - My s550 will shut off when it gets warm, I believe I read that in the manual - I let it idle too long once and it shut off - an indicator on the dash told me when it was ok to restart - I'm assuming it was too warm.

Edit - I was more concerned about drag racing and overheating…!

Ok found it here.

https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/confirmed-mustang-gt-pp2-overheats-in-3-laps-on-track.110246/

Well, the results of Car and Driver Lightning Lap 2018 are in, and it hasn't been kind to Ford.

Not only did the Corvette ZR1 demolish the three times more expensive Ford GT - 6 seconds faster at VIR, same day, same drivers....

https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/th...ternational-raceway.97684/page-7#post-2350669 (https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/ford-gt-vs-zr1-at-virginia-international-raceway.97684/page-7#post-2350669)

... but....

The Mustang GT PP2 consistently overheated in as few as 3 laps, and continued to overhead even when cool down laps were thrown in between hot laps.

Here is the exact quote from Car and Driver:

"But with no differential cooler, the rear axle overheated every time we took the Mustang out, often in as few as three hot laps, and even with easy laps staggered between them."

So there you have, leaving out the coolers was, again, a major fail by Ford.

So now, what? Wait for Performance Pack 3?

Wouldn’t say no to my neighbours 1LE ZL1 Camaro. I think 650Hp? Lots of tech in the thing too.
