I have a '14 1500 in the fleet with the 5.7L. I bought the 16 plugs for it over 150k ago and just never got around to it. With over 320k on it now and it still runs like a top. I'm thinking i'll just leave those plugs in those aluminum heads as long as I can now.

Sounds to me like those plugs are part of the heads now.

Much like the Spice Girl's song, Two have become one. Lifetime plugs should be a selling feature.

I was hesitaint to do them at 150k knowing they had never been out. It got back burnered, then busy season hits and larger fish to fry came with it. Next thing I knew there was over 200k on them. Wash, rinse repeat and here we are now. Truck is a spare right now, doesn't owe us a dime. I replaced it with a Cummins, so at least that's one less set of plugs to worry about ;)

Opposite end of the spectrum here, regardless of suggested interval, aim for 80k max. While none run dramatically different there is a noticeable improvement.

my edge was getting poor fuel economy. with almost 200k on it. it went in for service and I asked them to change the plugs they looked at me like I was nuts. said you only need to replace them if they fail. I said no thanks. replace them please. fuel economy improved.

SlipperyVic
02-04-2020, 12:15 PM
Yeah I don't normally let plugs go that long. I like to get them out before 100k just to get them out of the heads. And for the price I put new ones back in weather they look good or not.

Not carpal tunnel. Something else. He told me what it was but it was too long to remember. When I sleep my thumb becomes very limited in range of motion. I can force it and it makes a large click, Like the joint is squared off. Thats the outer knuckle on my thumb. It's painful to force it. After being up for a while it is normal again. The joint at my palm is painful. If I don't use it for a while it locks again. It is a progressive type thing and will continue to get worse. He said I was lucky to get in quickly (2 weeks) or it would be much harder to treat and would be much worse. I'm having it treated by a certified chiropractor who is also a sports therapist. He treats the Ottawa Redblacks. This literally happened overnight. I went to bed one evening and it was messed up the next day. Dr. told me that this type of injury is like a bucket filling up. Once its full its nearly instant. I'm still looking at options. Australian trucks have the splitter on the other side of the shift knob. Automatic trans swap is looking to be 30-40k. New truck is 200-250k and not going to happen. Career change is still an option but I'm 58 and always been self employed.

Next appt tmrw. Biggest question I have to ask is can I snowmobile.

hope it gets well - you wont like the automatic - they suck in reverse and in the snow - even the older auto's - modern auto's are worse in the snow - two weeks ago watch a guy blast the yokes from his drive shafts trying to get it unstuck |(it was kinda funny)

the drivers seem to like them once they try realize how much more comfortable they are to drive especially in traffic - their only complaints are backing into docks, they tend to lunge and not as smooth (your case may be different) and getting stuck in snow - The new trucks here are all auto and the tranny has a separate computer (not sure what tranny is in them) They have a lot of trouble in the snow cant bring up the R's or do much to get unstuck and sometimes early issues with clutches among other things - the wife drives a big school bus with the auto and she likes it - you have some tough decisions I feel for you - same age and I too have issues with hands and other joints - I will probably never get a car with paddle shifters...lol maybe time for a new truck with the emission standards are going to get tough on older equipment...

Ie. if it had cats from the factory it needs cats for a safety.

Actually the issue I was having was the window... I left the doors unlocked for the winter but forgot that when you open the door the window drops down 1/2" (which I knew) however if it doesn't drop down that little bit it hits the door frame at the top and that part I did NOT know, so I had to connect the battery for the window to drop down enough to clear that little trim piece

To be 100% legit on the road, it's suppose to have all of the emissions equipment it original came with and all is suppose to be in working condition. We are however seeing those that run converters plus PCV and no open breathers breeze through roadside checks without so much as a mention of rest that is long since gone. The main peeps getting gobbled up, older rides with more modern engines installed with zero emissions equipment in place not realizing equipment required follows the engine used not yr of the ride. Again, make a clear effort to comply and powers to be are satisfied.

this picture of the kitchen shows the lovely crooked doors of the vintage cupboards, as well as the beautiful Pink tile. make of exotic plastic that actually says made in Canada on the back. if anyone is interested the tile comes off fairly easy, I can box it up and send it to you if you wish to surprise the wife.

I thought my early 50s kitchen was bad but at least it is white or off white.

Of course the majority of my house has pink wallpaper with a whole 19th century scene including a mill and a guy fishing so I'm only ahead on one room being livable.

The selective enforcement of the law is creeping higher and higher up the food chain.

Selective forgiveness of a speeding ticket is chump change.

Society abdicates use of force based on the agreement that government will uniformly and justly apply the law. This agreement is more and more broken.

Apparently this is ok now if we look at south of the border (so Prez or PM - same difference?).

Or in the Roger Stone case.....

Trump should have absolute stayed out of that. Bad optics and just another thing that give the demos to hang on. How ever the sentence they were looking at hitting Stone with was unprecedentedly harsh. 10 years prison while others convicted of the same thing were given no jail time or at most a couple years. That wasn’t right either.

92redragtop
02-14-2020, 03:41 PM
AG is supposedly looking at Flynn case so that's likely coming - probably not a pardon but same type of deal with Stone as that more effectively breaks down rule of law and allows selective enforcement of law.

As for prosecutorial recommendation - they can recommend the max but the judge will determine the final sentence - unless they are directed/indirected to do otherwise.

had my phone ring last weekend 3 times same number phone said it was out of st Catherin's. on the last ring I answered and it was a msg. threatening the police something about sin number yada yada. since it came up with a number I hit redial. it went to a voice mail. I left a very angry msg about phone scams, what I thought of them and if you want to arrest me come and get me. there was some yelling and probably at least 2 swear words.

5 min later the phone rings again. same number. I answered with a WHAT! and this voice of an older gentleman answered me. apologized for bother me. said he got a rather angry msg. from me and just wanted to let me know that it wasn't him that was calling. I I double checked the call history and it was the same number I was getting the scam calls from. he said he has gotten a few angry msgs from people but his phone company cant seem to do anything about it. poor guy said he was afraid to answer his phone any more. I apologized profusely. and we talked for a few min. seemed like a really nice guy. lol I felt like shit

just fyi don't know how they are doing it but somehow either faking the call display number or piggy backing off un suspecting victims phones.

Thinking of putting a beam in for our kitchen.

There is currently a partial wall separating the kitchen and dining room. It’s not load bearing

The floor joists above run the length of the room and are 2x10 and the room is 19.5 feet long.

There is no sagging that I can see however when we did the bathroom upstairs we relocated the tub so it’s almost in the middle of that span.

I’m thinking since I’m in there and removing this partial wall I should put support in just in case. Since the house is around 100 years old

Width of the room is 11 feet. Does the thickness to length rule apply in this case?
Which would mean I can go a double laminated 2x12 to span that 11ft. And then carry the weight down to the jack posts that are already there in the basement?

RedSN
02-17-2020, 07:50 PM
Removing a wall ....the City is going to want an engineer sign off on it, a letter stating it’s non-load bearing. If it’s load bearing, the engineer will size the beam for you. If it’s non-load bearing then the beam is just for decoration (peace of mind?) and you can use whatever size beam you want.

5.4MarkVIII
02-17-2020, 08:41 PM
was a 2 foot wall put in 40 years after the house was built. to cap then end of the cupboards. I still need them to sign off that's its not load bearing?

room on the other side of stairs is identical size and layout. and no wall in the middle.

York regional police say they were called to an RBC branch in the area of 16th Avenue and Markham Road just as the bank was closing around 8 p.m. Passersby had noticed the robbery in progress and called 911.
According to police, three suspects got out of a car, entered the bank and ordered everyone on the ground. They then demanded cash from the safe.
Police said two handguns — one loaded and the other a replica — and a knife were recovered from the scene.
Police said four employees of the bank were injured — two men were stabbed while another man and one female sustained head injuries from a blunt object. All were taken to local hospitals by paramedics, one with serious but not life-threatening injuries. Police said they are expected to recover.

A 16-year-old boy, a 15-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy each face eight charges, including robbery with a firearm, aggravated assault, and disguise with intent.

I was thinking the same thing but about the empties - I use to service their transportation equipment - not only do they warehouse and delivery the beer to the smaller sellers, but they also handle all the empty bottles and the recycling of the glass - none of the other locations will be able to handle this - will be interesting to see if they lose proceeds from the sales - maybe that will trigger an increase in cost if all they do is deliver and handle recycling...just a thought

The only time I ever go to the beer store anymore is to return empties. I sometimes use the cash back to get a couple cans of beer.

If the Beer Store closes, where on earth will I ever find generic beer!?

Living in a small town, we have beer, liquor and wine sold at the local convenience store.
They also accept ALL recyclable cans and bottles.

Was at planet ford with a buddy who is looking for a truck. Obviously seen this car sitting in the show room. So like the man child I am I went to go sit in it. I obviously compared it to my 03. I didn’t like a single thing about this car. Performance wise it would destroy my car. But sitting in the car and just looking at it did nothing for me. I hated the seats, very uncomfortable.

Funny you should say that... I was at the car wash tonight and I guy came walking about and asked if I smoked... I said no (and I don't), he walked up and down the carwash and nobody smoked (or said they did) on his way back, I yelled over and said "here, this should at least get you started" I had a $10 in my pocket from earlier... might not buy a pack but should get him a couple somewhere LOL - meh

Also this summer I was out for dinner and the waitress was a complete bitch... I mean complete!! She seem to really suck at her job and if you asked for anything it was like you asked her to climb mount Everest, looked like she had been crying at some point... but was in a real grouchy mood. Anyways, the dinner sucked and they were out of a few things on the menu including the desert I wanted... and I hardly ever order desert so that sucked! Anyways, I thought, who knows what's up... maybe she is just a fucking bitch that hates her job... BUT maybe she's having problems at home, maybe a pet just died, maybe she just broke up with her boyfriend, maybe doesn't get along with her parents... could be anything. And yeah your not 'supposed' to be bringing baggage to the work place blah blah, IMO sometimes it's unavoidable, I mean when my Dad died, I was back to work within a few days just to get things off my mind but I'll be first to admit I wasn't very productive and I mean, generally I'm not very productive so you can imagine then LOL

Anyways, long story short, I don't think she got many if any tips that night with any customers and I'm sure that didn't help the situation (even though it was brought on herself). So I paid with Visa and left no tip on the machine which they can obviously see when printing your receipt and I could see her kinda sigh but when I stood up I gave here a $40 cash tip (my meal was only $23) and said, next time make sure they have my desert! It was the first time she smiled all night and said "thank you and I will"

oh and I saved some guys life one night blah blah lol

BTW, he fully recovered and still rides around with no helmet LOL (grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr)

Insane what a "base model" is these days. My two latest fleet orders showed up today, 2020 Silverados WT's in CCSB 2WD config. Been going with Ram last few orders but Chevy really stepped up on incentives this go around. Ordered them with the 2.7L turbos and 8 spd auto. The only option's I spec'd besides powertrain was the convenience package so the guys have cruise and power locks as well as rubber floors an a spray in liner. The trucks were around 33k all said and discounted IIRC.

Holy fuck was I picturing something different for what I thought would be a stripped model.

- Large touch screen display, with apple car play and wifi (The last Rams I ordered have a tiny non touch screen)
- Really nice backup cam on said screen vs in the mirror
- Freakin power opening tailgate that barely weighs a thing to put up
- 120v Power plug in the bed which is an idea I'm shocked I never thought would be smart. If it can run our small seam welder it eliminates the need to bring a generator on small repair jobs

Main thing I notice is the interior (rubber floor aside) doesn't feel "base". Its all black vs the grey and black combo's I'm used to. The cloth on the seats actually feels pretty good and the seats are comfortable. The toggles are all really nice and there's actually some chrome/polish bits. Also a lack of "blank button" syndrome.

Honestly kinda bewildered. These things feel as nice as some of the LT/SLT level trucks we've gotten in past.

I'll likely never drive these, might try to pick up from lettering before the guys trash it but depends on timing. But I will be watching the fuel economy tracking pretty regularly. I'm not telling the guys what's in them, want to see if they observe anything different vs the V6 we usually run.

Lock

Is your's a 15 or a 16? A lot of people we're complaining that the early transfer cases with the 4WD auto option needed too much slip to engage all for in 4Lock. I guess it's not a true lock in that box like it is in the Outdoorsman/SLT t-case as it still needs some slip to engage all 4. Sounded like mid year 15 they changed something as my 16 engages in 4 lock with minimal slip needed where as others I've driven you can feel the back step out before the front grabs.

no, when it's in lock, it's locked... if I use Auto, you can feel it slip first before the lock kicks in... I rarely use Auto though, always felt it was too hard on it switching back and forth all the time... dunno, mine is a late 15 MY

For the love of god people, please be respectful of tow truck operators this time of year. There out there in the fucking worst of it risking their lives because we're all idiots who run all season tires and don't know how to drive.

One of our guys slid off a county road today that he had no business being on (trying to make it back to the shop early) in our 550 flat bed. Not really his fault but blowing snow/icy roads and a 2wd long wheelbase truck with no weight over the rears. I went out to try and yank him with our 2500 Sierra and had to go 4Lo to get to him. Needless to say lack of throttle control had him burried up to the axle so she wasn't coming out with that alone. Local towing operator was on site already rescuing a Purolator truck from the ditch and since we already have an account with them asked if they could use their big 6x Volvo to yank us next which they happily obliged.

Watched these poor guys get cussed out by folks who were clearly stuck spinning their wheels shooting rooster tails saying "I'm fine leave me alone I'll get it out (they didn't)" as they are just trying to get to their customers who want to be pulled out. Then after pushing out the people who refused to take a tow (for free) and finally getting to the people who would take a pull they get idiots flying by them inches away because they're afraid to slow down and get stuck on a road they shouldn't be on in the first place. Once they had us hooked up someone coming oncoming in a Savana delivery van puts it sideways. They try and coach the the guy to ease in to the throttle and gently get it going while they push him straight but buddy just wants to hammer down and spray them with snow because clearly he knows better. Took us 3 hours to get our truck out because people wouldn't lay off and let them do their job.

Note to self, call the tow company tomorrow and say what a great job those two guys did because honestly I woulda punched someone out, and they had to turn right back around and do that dance 4-5 more times until the plow can get through.

Sorry to hear about your bike race getting cancelled. That sucks.

Obviously health is the most important thing, but yeah still sucks. It is a great week

sorry to hear that sounds like an awesome event - it's been a while but I use to cycle. Been thinking about taking it up again - what kind of bike are you riding...? It sounds like corona will be cancelling a lot of worldly travel...

I ride a 2016 Cervelo S5 Dura-ace with Zipp 454 wheels (have about 35,000 km's on it) for road and a 2015 Argon Electron Pro track bike with FFWD rear disc and front 5 spoke carbon wheelset.

Italy would have been my second cycling trip of the year, I rode from San Francisco to Santa Barbara in January, 630km's/ 3 days. Hiway 1 right down the coast. Was a fantastic experience

You have more KM's on your 2016 Bicycle than I have on my 2016 Pickup. Jesus.

2020 Olympics may be toast too depending on how much longer this goes - billions are spent leading up to these plus all the travel companies who have to give refunds. There are going to be business failures coming.

I would think the airlines will be hurting soon - I have my news feed turned off on my laptop (been cleansing) so not up top date on anything current

I live in Milton, so ride up and down the escarpment a lot.
Spent a week last year riding in the French alps for actual mountains, 1000-1500m climbs.

oh wow I would of loved to have done that - I'm getting all worked up hahaha - always day dreamed about the Tour de France - how do you like the cervelo - my bike was chrome moly - I tried some aluminum bikes back in the day but didn't like them - I always felt the frame was twisting...? The cervelo's and other carbon bikes where just becoming main stream as I was shutting down so I never did get to try them out.

We did two of the three climbs that the tour did last year during their “Queen Stage”, which is the hardest day on the race for the tour. 10,000ft of elevation that day for us (we did three climbs that day, but because we were not riding point to point had to skip the col de Galibier)

Cervelo makes fantastic bikes, it is very aerodynamic and stiff which results in a very fast bike. The S5 I have is the top of the line bike they produce
This will probably be my last season riding it before it is time for a new one

very cool - I think in a few years when work slows a little I will get back into it - once in a while I see a club ride past my street - I have an uncle who still rides and he's almost 70 so there's no excuse for me lol - before I got out of all the cycling and running I was looking at the modern trials bikes from that era Cervelo, Giant, Kona where just breaking into the triathlon scene but never did get one (and they where relatively cheap back then..lol compared to today). It's very cool you can go to all these locations and ride.

You did more kilometres on your bike at TMP track day than I did on my bike the last two years!

You should definitely get back into it, great exercise , can be very social. I ride with people from teens to 60's.

I am very fortunate to be able to ride all the places I do

okay so update on the RAM situation lol, we had even more snow today than yesterday but this time I pulled in, instead of backing in and the truck just idled right through like nothing was even there... so turns out it's just me being dumb trying to back up the driveway (Which BTW is the legal way to do it... just saying) LOL

A timed sprint lap?

You rode Mosport a couple years ago, I seem to remember.
TMP a lot flatter, LOL.
