So I moved in to this Industrial unit a year or so ago but have only just begun to look at washing cars inside for personal stuff. There is a 4" floor drain that has one of those plugs with a wingnut and rubber stopper on the bottom. I removed that to find what looks like a backflow preventer with the spring and plunger. Wanting to test this out I poured a cup of water down but it drains incredibly slowly and never handle any amount of water used while washing a vehicle.

Should this not be open always to allow for drainage? I thought they were to remain open but close when they see flow from the backside? Maybe this not a drain but something else

Thinking on contacting the property manager to have them send their Plumber out that way if there is a fuck up it's not on me.
