View Full Version : S197 Seats in a New Edge

One of my future mods for my 04 is to replace the seats with better ones. The present leather seats are good but are not made for tall people. The seat bottom and back are too small for my large frame. I could get a severe whiplash if I get into an accident. I've seen that some have replaced the seats with ones from S197 Mustangs like gsoukaris did and it looks amazing. I'd like your opinions as to which years are best for the swap. I'd like to keep the seats in leather and medium graphite.

Lots of articles on the web about swapping, seems it's easier done vs what I'd have thought.

Thanks for the pic Rick. I've read a bunch of articles but none have indicated which years are best for the swap.

What colour are your current seats? Any rips or cracks?

If charcoal grey.... I CALL DIBS!!

I like my racing seats. Got them mounted nice and low and with my flat bottom steering wheel my knees finally don't hit the wheel.

The seats are medium graphite with no cracks. Don't know when I'll be doing the swap.

I'd like to keep the interior as "stock looking" as possible hence my search for leather, medium graphite S197 seats.

Fair, but I always found that the stock interior of the New Edge cars was too sedate and more fitting of a crown vic than a Mustang. Seats/steering wheel and other interior mods made it a lot sportier and modern IMO

Old Fart

Nice...it does look sportier!

I think the S197 seats look quite at home in the new edge cars as long as the colour works.

I bought a set from a 2014 (charcoal with the white stripe) to put in my Fox.
Fox seats mount up very similarly to the New Edge.

Apparently manual Fox rails drop the seating position about 1/2"-3/4" so that's the way I'm going for now.
Power lumbar and heat seem like a real bonus for some late season cruising!

I put some S550 GT PP recaro’s in my foxbody on the weekend. Bolted up to the stock front mounting holes with one new hole drilled per seat, need to make up some brackets to mount the back half of the seats. They do sit high compared to stock seats. Will look at the fox rail option

How hard would it be to change the seat foam? A Niagara auto wrecker has these for low $$.

There are some good how to videos out there on these. Personally upholstery is not my thing so I'd take them in. If going that far might as well redo them all the way.

While seats are a PITA to take apart, it's very doable with patience. Did leather interior myself in the last truck, came out looking factory.

Thanks, that's what I kinda figured. Fast Ed informed me that the seat cushions are obsolete. I found some on LMR...about $350 for the cushions and $300 + shipping for the seats equals $650+. That's about the price I've seen for undamaged seats. Maybe I'll pass on these and keep aiming for the "premium" pattern.

Still no luck on finding seats. During my latest research I noticed the 4-way adjustable headrest that were an option on the 03-04 GTs and standard on the mach1, cobra seats. Maybe I could get the needed neck protection by just swapping headrests?

Finally found some S197 seats...well maybe not. Found a set from LAD's Auto Recyclers in Pembroke and had them shipped and they arrived yesterday. It's not the style I prefer but the seats are from a 2007 with 40,000kms. The passenger seat is power and they are both heated. While unpacking I noticed they sent the wrong seats. The passenger seat is not power, the rust under the seats does not indicate 40,000kms. The driver's seat is also damaged.

Now I have to wait till Monday to call them and see what they will do. I hope they will send the correct seats and take the wrong ones back.

Might have to look in to it some more over winter. I LOVE my Braum seats but they are not so universally loved by passengers.

Hey Old Fart I also installed a set of 07 seats and once you do you will be glad you did. You will need to fab brackets for them they dont line up. But if you can weld your good to go. I had a line on a set of recaros but that didn't pan out. I also swapped the connector for the seat power and works like a champ.

Also just make sure you mount them as close to the center console as possible, or they will rub on the door and drive you nuts.

Seats are in very good condition. Both power seats work but the power lumbar does not. The motor functions but does not move the adjustment. Also need to find a 2007 seat wiring diagram so I can test the heated seats.

Did a Google search n read a bunch of threads. Ridiculous how common the problem is, Ford only sell as an assembly, no aftermarket parts that I could find.

Good idea. My research shows that 2009-2014 F150 use a similar setup. Will try to find one at the salvage yard.

Confirmed by Ed. If I can't find any F150 parts, that will be my plan B.

Found some gears at a salvage yard from a 2011 F150. They appear to be made from some kind of metal. From their weight, probably aluminum as they are not magnetic. I guess Ford recognized that the plastic gears were a problem.

Might be going this way. It's a foxbody install but it should be very similar. Thinking of using spare carpet to cover the brackets.

I got the driver's seat bolted in!! It's not pretty but I wanted to get the seat as low as possible so I don't touch the roof. The rails are on the carpet, so it's as low as it can go. I figure about a 1 to 1 1/2 inch reduction in seat height. I used the video above as a guide and it turn out great, in my opinion. Now it comes out again for wiring, cleaning and to paint the brackets.

I sat in the seat and it's amazing...can't wait till spring!!
