View Full Version : Looking at a 2016 GT from a dealer. New to dealer scene, how much do I haggle?

So tomorrow night I'm going to check a 2016 mustang GT, I think it's a PP as I saw the brake calipers and 19" rims with 255s up front from the pictures. How much can I haggle? Can I haggle on a car that new? it has 44k km.

Anything I should be checking? I'm going to be financing a chunk of it also. it's not a big name dealer ship, automobile direct its called.

Any help would be appreciated. I know there are a few dealer savy people here :)

Thanks

For the difference in price I would look at new vs. used and the fact that Ford Employee Pricing is on until September 30th. The interest rate on new (I think) is 0.9% vs. say 6.9% on used. 2019 PP cars can be had for 37K.

I Kinda agree here with the others - Chinga hit o the head - it pays to look at new and used sometimes the used are the same price as new or close, gotta watch for that - if I could add one more thing, sometimes putting money down doesn't effect the monthly payment much unless you put down a substantial amount, also if you decide to by new there will be a push to upsell from the finance advisor so be prepared for that - they will try to sell you all kinds of warrenty etc. - best thing is to have a monthly payment in mind your comfortable with and stick to your guns... good luck man!!!

Well a new GT is not in the budget, I mean other than the word new on it, the changes from the 2016 to the 2019 aren't worth an extra 15k to me. Sorry guys, just not interested in new for the price. This is why I asked what I did in my original post

What is the asking price...? 2019 GT's at Heritage Ford starting at around 35,000.00 most 2016 I see aren't far off that?

i'm not much of a haggler - if I could give one bit of advice find out if it was in an accident and how much it was to repair this could have a bearing on finance as well if the repair exceeded x amount of dollars - good luck buddy don't rush there's lots around don't rush...

Do you have a link to the car?

Edit... Is this it? https://www.automobileendirect.com/used/2016-Ford-Mustang-id7485701.html?utm_source=google&utm_campaign=organic

This is a base 300a car. It has no Performance Package. It also has no drive mode selector toggles. Cloth interior and the small 4" reverse camera screen (no nav).

This car is as base as they come. The wheels are aftermarket.

By comparison, here's a 2016 GT Premium with leather, nav and the Performance Pack for $31,995. The base car you're looking at is $28,999. A $3000 difference... So for $3000 you're getting a better suspension, Brembo 6 Piston brakes, leather, nav, drive modes, interior colour change lighting, etc... I know which I'd be choosing. This black GT Premium also has 9K less km's on the odo.

Yea I live in Montreal. Probably why I didn't see that one.

Yes the link you posted is the one I'm going to look at it. I thought from the pics it had the performance package.

I'm going to look at this one tomorrow https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1447948845&requestSource=b

Point being that the first car you were looking at was no deal. I’m sure you can find better in Montreal.

The CS is nice but doesn’t come with the Performance Pack, if that’s something you want.

Just for comparison, you can get a 2019 with 301a and performance pack for 41K. Only 6 more than that CS.

Yes I got your point, I wasn't arguing with it. I know you have a large number of car purchases under your belt so I believe you haha

I don't know how badly I want a premium and PP. I would buy that black one without question

Hmmm $540ish/month for that 2016 or a 2019 for $610ish with zero down stroke. Throwing money down will make very little difference on the monthly payment especially at 0.9% for new vs. the 6.99% for used.

imo buying the 2016 is a huge mistake....ive called around and i can buy a 300a base gt brand new 6spd for under $39k, $38,380 out the door tax in to be exact...ford is offering 2.99 for 60mth and 3.49 for 72 months....bank may give you 6.99 on used at best...the interest savings alone over 5-6 years makes the new car a better buy....if u have $36k for a used 2016 then you have $40k for a new one...new one is your ass in it from day one, full warranty etc etc...

After debating, I think the premium package is worth more to me than the performance package.

After all these replies I'm going to have to really crunch the numbers. I was steering away from the 2019 as I heard there was some issues with the stick and the motor ticking, I will admit I didn't do much investigation on it though since I wasn't looking for brand new. My gripe now is that I want heated seats and adaptive cruise control....etc.

Armen

I thought the 301a has heated seats but it doesn’t.

You’d have to go 400/401a for the seats to be heated (and cooled).

Well back home in norwood ontario my neighbours did not think I was the quiet little boy with the 10 mustangs I had before haha, they were probably happy I moved to montreal as they got louder every time. I have a 750vfr with a hogged out exhaust here in montreal now (something to tie me over until I picked up another stang) that sounds awesome but I kill it about 100m from my driveway when I come home after 11. I'll probably just put into the driveway the same with this car lol.

Good think I have a warranty on it for awhile, will force me to not put turbo/supercharger kit on it until 2021

I guess an exhaust kit doesn't void the warranty??

Not sure but an axle back should be ok but I doubt a catback or header back is though.

You should be just fine, even if it’s a cat back. As long as emissions are not touched you should have coverage unless they can prove an aftermarket part caused a failure which is very difficult to do.

Congratulations on your purchase, you will love the S550 platform and the coyote.

Nice that is good to know. it was purchased september 2017 so I still have 1 full year of bumper to bumper warranty which is nice. Should be a hoot to drive this winter!

I think I'm going to have to sit in the car for a few hours figuring out how everything works. Pick it up tomorrow evening.

Side note: I love how all the gauges turn red at WOT when it's time to shift, at least that is what I'm assuming it was telling me lol

Just the tach changes to red and rest don’t change. They are really great cars and good performers. First mod recommendation once you are used to it is the MGW shifter. Improves every aspect of driving a manual and high rpm lockouts go away.

MGW is really the way to go. I went race spec with standard height and throw (both are shorter than stock). Best to install on a lift. Likely will need to pull the drive shaft and the entire centre console needs to come out.

Rick (ZR) did mine and a buddy’s as well. Both couldn’t be happier with the shifter and the installation.

MGW shifter is 100% worth while. I put one in each of my Shelby’s and a friends 2013 shelby. One of the best mods I’ve done. Congrats on the purchase as well. That blue is gorgeous
