Ford is going electric for SEMA this year with its freshly announced Mustang Lithium. The pony car is an all-electric one-off with over 900 horsepower and 1000 lb-ft of torque, a bunch of aftermarket add-ons, and a six-speed manual transmission. Hell yeah.

The Mustang Lithium was built in collaboration with Webasto, the company that developed the car's battery system. It's an 800-volt setup, similar to the one found on the Porsche Taycan. Power goes from two inverters to a Phi-Power dual-core electric motor, which sends thrust through through a billet six-speed Getrag MT82 manual transmission. There's an 8.8-inch Torsen limited-slip differential out back, twisting Ford Performance half-shafts.

Holy fuck this is rad. If this is the future I can get on board with that.

Looks cool but a six-speed manual??? Gears are usually not needed with electrics, and if so it’s only two. Not to mention that trans would need crazy strength to take the abuse of an electric powertrain.
I still prefer ICE, the car looks great and has good stats, but sound is a big part of car culture to me.

I think having a manual 6 speed is what makes this so cool. Also, believe the trans is built as hell.

Was thinking the same. That 1000 ft-lb of torque is instant. Unless there’s some kind of controller on the clutch pedal that limits the volts dumped to the motor.

Electrics aside .....that paint scheme! That car looks hot! White with big blue callipers? Why have I not seen that before?

Might be cool but also basically pointless, it’s not needed. Any let’s be honest here, Ford isn’t the greatest at building strong trannies, so unless the car has some kind of nanny as Don stated, that trans will be scattered pretty quickly.

It's a full billet Calimer built trans. I know not needed but I feel like its a huge step to bridge the Motorhead-Techie gap that so many electrics miss. To me this is genuinely the most excited electric car dreamt by an OE.

would like to see pics of it moving...and happy to see it's still a mustang! I read recently somewhere gm to have an electric sports car by 2023 but didn't say what - at this stage was a littles skeptical that the big three would have anything by 2025 - this looks promising...

There’s an electric COPO Camaro drag car, so that’s not much of a stretch.....

First of all the manuals ford contract them out to third party and heck the T-56 is a stout piece and the GT 500 ones are even better...…

The auto's have come a long way...the 6R680 will support 900 rwhp untouched and the 10 speed is showing the same......

It's great... you could probably just leave it in 4th gear and drive it like an auto if you wanted to... It's best of both worlds. Electric is the way to go, there's no doubt. I'll take monster-truck torque at 0rpm over a V8 sound, it's not like it will sound like a stupid 4 banger lol Besides you could easily virtualize the sounds and vibrations.

It sounds promising - I've read as much as I could find on it, but I don't see an new or electric vehicle in the near future and will watch from the side lines

Ya the T56 is a good one, and yes I’m aware they contract them out. I know the autos are pretty strong, but the Coyote stick and anything before it haven’t held up to power very well from what I’ve heard.

Please tell me it has much more than 500 km range (like 1000 km) otherwise it will be useless. As my recent Tesla rental taught me. 500km is only 100% charge range. So the recommended 80% charge is 400km. Don't go below 10% charge so that is 350 km range. Factor in headlights, heater and A/C, Wipers, electric steering, Radio etc. Plus different driving styles and you are looking at realistic 250km range. Worse if you travel more than 60-80 kph. Lack of level 3 chargers. There you have it. An F150 that costs 75,000 and is good for a daily commute only. Makes me sad because I am sick of buying fuel. I want an electric car.

Average people don't do more than 100km /day. I do about 120-150 with my stupid commute taking the loooong way home (farm country to avoid the 401) and I'd be happy with a 250km range.

Also, got my service upgraded and I'll be running a 6/3 cable to the garage to start with a 60amp sub-panel. I'm getting ready for this... Ideally we will have two electric daily drivers and a fox body or two. I can't wait, I will drive by gas stations giving them the finger each day.

If you do cost/benefit or ROI calcs... electrics don't make a lot of a sense for most people. I also don't think it's the answer to "climate change" either, if that's even an issue. Real answer is to get cars off the road like 4 day work weeks, telecommuting, etc. But the real answers don't add to "revenue generators" for governments - they only solve possible climate problems.

With that said, I like electrics for the tech, not having to freeze standing around pumping gas into a car, the power/torque, etc...

It will be a matter of time when the government steps in and start charging extra fees (ie:taxes) to those with at home charging stations to make up for lost revenue from the fuel taxes. People are dreaming thinking it's going to stay at $4-5 to charge up their car, as more EV's hit the roads.
