It was good - it's different from the juicy IPA styles you get at Rouge, Badlands but this one was a typical crisp pale ale with low bitterness and clean on the palate - nice and refreshing. Had the ESB a while back and it was good as well - similar to the Wellington ESB (I think that's who make one of the regular ones at the LCBO).

They are on the north side of main street in Wellington - also have a patio with food.

Today's pickups - 2 tubs of ice cream from Knockout Ice Cream, Blood Brothers, and Bellwoods (ordered a 3-pack of their Imperial IPA and they threw in an extra one). Thought about cruising down in the stang but re-considered that there may be too many idiots on the road in T.O. traffic so left it at home....I was right.

Took a drive out to Willibald Farm Distillery and Brewery just outside of Ayr this afafternoon for some lunch and so the boss could get her hands on some limited release Gingerbread Gin, the almost empty glass was a taster. Also had the Export lager which was great and a Spiced Pumpkin Milkshake DIPA. Was not expecting it to be good but I was very surprised and happy with the flavour. Smooth and hoppy like a DIPA with a pumpkin pie kick. Delicious.

Also picked up their latest releases, an Oktoberfest lager and a new ipa.

Just finished a 16 day work trip to Newfoundland, because of having to isolate outside of work, it was a dry 2+ weeks, so I didn't get a chance to sample some Quidi Vidi local favourites. It's a tough regime to follow the rules but necessary to stay within the law. Once everyone knew I was from Ontario, they gave me extra social distance, felt like I had the Bubonic Plague.
Anyways on the return flight through Halifax, grabbed a Codfather sandwich at the Firkin and Flyer restaurant in the Terminal, along with the Breton Brewing IPA, I could have spent the afternoon with a couple of these there.
Picked up some local craft beers at the kiosk, bought the Frig Off only because of the name but it is a decent beer. Have tried the Tag!You're It IPA, excellent beer. Probably will be through the others by Saturday.

The coffee Porter from Haliburton Highlands Brewery was also quite delicious. Nice sweet coffee flavour but not overpowering.

Paper Moon Brut IPA is 7% ABV, 0 IBU, as effervescent as sparkling wine, bone-dry, with a pale near-clear appearance and strong New World hop aroma.

The “sparkling wine” effervescence was interesting. Was lite like a session IPA, but with double the alcohol.

I just don't understand how you guys enjoy all those IPAs, way too hoppy for me. But then I'm perfectly content having a generic major market beer.

I've decided to stop buying any alcohol until I've made it through a bunch of my liquor cabinet. Last night was Dracula's flower, combination of fruit flavours and grain alcohol from a distillery near Elora. Pretty tasty. Tonight might be a scotch night, currently enjoying a bottle I picked up in Glasgow last fall.

Edit: looked it up, silver fox distillery near Arthur. Dracula's flower is a combination of lavender and blood orange.

It was actually pretty good but I preferred the regular Dankster as it was less juice and more beer (only got one of the fruited version for myself just to try).

Most of these are not the hoppy, bitter IPAs that you get from the large brewers - plus the doubles and triples have more of the juicy/citrus taste.

I get it. I was the same way before too. Never really a fan of the hoppy IPAs until my sister brought me some Heady Topper from the Alchemist. As Richard said: the cloudier more citrusy IPAs aren’t really all that hoppy.

But that’s the way I was with beer before I didn’t even really like beer. It took me the right beer to actually enjoy it. Never liked Canadian, Blue, Coors, or Bud (still don’t). But when I tried Waterloo Dark on a brewery tour I was “wow! That I like!”.

It's been a weird holiday, only had 2 beers on Christmas day with my wife and daughter, and without the usual 2 or 3 other family goings on, it has been a dry season for me. Usually some family members bring some craft beers to try, oh well next year.
My daughter did buy me 2 beer books for Christmas (she wasn't going to step inside an LCBO to pick me up some beer).
The Brewing Revolution is from Frank Appleton in BC who is considered as a pioneer in the craft beer business with BrewPubs etc. he set up in the 80's and 90's. A bit dry in the writing but a good story.
The Atlas of Beer is from the folks at National Geographic, it is big, has great photos, and background in regions around the world for the beer they produce, and the methods. Supposedly in the 15th/16th centuries it was safer to drink beer than the unsanitary water from wells.

Last weekend we drank Hidden Bench Estate Organic Pinot Noir with the wine experts online.

https://winesinniagara.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/apinot-1.jpg

And while I was at the LCBO picking it up, found Robohop back on the shelves!

Having one of those right now. It was a long day, LOL.

…Hidden bench before....they're on the list to visit this year. How was it?

It was very nice. Very light, easy drinking. It was funny, our favourite sommelier, John Szabo, almost got a perfect score on it. He correctly determined: Variety, Country, Region, Appellation, and Price. He only missed a point on Vintage by one year. He described it as new world, cold region, limestone.... LOL, I thought “he know what this wine is”.

Who makes the double hazy beer?

Working in Whitehorse this week, at least the restaurants can deliver beer with your self isolation plan food.
Lead Dog Ale from Yukon Brewery is really decent. After 2 @ 7% I feel like a nap.

Been a long time since I had tequila. Forgot what it tasted like.

Did a shot of each.

They both go down smooth. Taste good. The burning in my throat wasn’t strong. Blanco is a lighter taste. I like both.

Their website has a lot of recipes for mixology. My wife likes the idea of hot chocolate and tequila.

AN IPA is a series that acts as a creative outlet for all things IPA from Oss. An APA is a sister series of sorts, with certain hoppy similarities in a lighter vehicle.
This batch of An APA is hopped with Citra and Sterling. Tastes like pineapple, confit lemon and pine. ABV: 5.6%

GHOST ORCHID. What do you do when something you love is in scarce supply? When demand outweighs supply? Faced with the reality that we will never be able to acquire all the Nelson Sauvin of our dreams, we decided to reserve the lions share of our Nelson allotment for this magnificent IPA: Ghost Orchid. Named after the highly coveted but endangered flower, this ode to one of the most unique hop varieties is about relishing a rarity. 6.3% Alc.

GREENBELLY LORAL emerges as our first Triple IPA, and with it, a reminder that prodigious hop additions just taste good. This batch is a special Loral version made with regular Loral hops and lupulin powder. It's supercharged! Hugely aromatic, with notes of clementine, vanilla, soft jasmine, low bitterness, and a pillowy soft body, this beer translates a great magnitude of hops into an impressively balanced, hazy orb of wonder. 10% Alc/Vol.

Also got a haircut earlier this week, finally got rid of the Larry David crazy hair look, and last night restaurants opened, and got to eat in a sit down setting for the first time in 4+ months. Was getting sick of drive through food

83 5.0

Not too bad, still only about 30-40 % capacity, only issue is how many times Air Canada changes your flights, they seem to consolidate them about 1-2 weeks before departure, either 8 am or 4- 5pm. I always book the rear of the plane, most people seem to want to sit more to the front to get off first. My flying is down about 1/2 of what I normally would have done, but i can see this changing as things ramp up towards the fall.
Lots of craft brewers out here, but because there are alot of small Liquor Marts,(think Circle K size store) selection is not like the LCBO or The beer store.
