Gillingham Brewery Showdown IPAs.
One made with Amarillo hops, the other with Galaxy Hops.

Verdict: they are both tasty good.

Well, that’s lights out with this quadruple…..

Finally had this one. That’s a whole lotta beer in such a small can.

From Shacklands:

8.2% ABV
355ml can
Belgian Dark Strong Ale brewed with maple sap
Can conditioned

This is something both sumptuous and very very special. Brewed in April using 100% Canadian ingredients, this Belgian Dark Strong ale was made entirely using maple sap sourced from Perry Sound instead of water. Fermented with our house Abbey yeast, it was also finished with maple syrup from the same producer and rested on toasted sugar maple wood and oak. Heritage hops from Prince Edward County add a very pleasant and delicate earthy, floral, and slightly herbaceous bouquet. With deep hints of maple and spice, it has a supple velvety texture and caramel like roundness without being at all overly sweet. Packing layers and layers of complexity and a gentle warming heat, Sugar Shack is best enjoyed at cellar temperatures around 10-13°C.

After years of talking about making this, and many months of work and waiting for it to age to perfection, we are so excited to finally be releasing this absolutely gorgeous beer. Drink it no or keep some in the cellar.

Happy New Year! Drink of choice for the last 10 NYEs has been Canadian ice wine since champagne doesn't taste as good and doesn't store well after the first day. Wasn't sure how well this 2014 late harvest Cab Franc vintage aged in the cellar but turned out to be uber tasty.

Finishing up S3 of Jack Ryan this afternoon with this West Coast IIIPA, leftover sushi from last night, avocado bites, and breaded buffalo caulifower bites.

From the brewery (Blood Brothers): Duet craft cocktails is setting a new standard for going out for a drink!

Through many, many hours of trial, error and our eventual victory, we couldn’t be more pleased to offer our first RTD: Bright and Stormy. Based on the classic Dark and Stormy cocktail recipe, this full-flavoured beverage uses fresh-pressed ginger and lime juice to elevate this drink to true mixology excellence.

We firmly believe that compromise is not an option when crafting the best beverages possible. As of such, real fruit and spices will be at the core of each recipe. Duet will offer a full range of products for everyone’s palate, from extra dry to full-flavoured, and all offerings will come in both alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions, allowing everyone to partake.

We are excited to support this amazing female-owned passion for craft. We are even more excited that it is the better halves of Blood Brothers Brewing leading the charge.

From the brewery (Blood Brothers/Third Moon): Spoiler alert: this is the thickest beer we’ve ever made! It tastes just like the indulgent juice box we all know and love, but one that’s crafted with our neutral ale and then absolutely crammed with delicious and hefty peanut flavour. This is ground zero for peanut, folks. The nut-intolerant need not apply for this one.

From the brewery (Blood Brothers): What’s better than coffee? Vietnamese-style coffee on nitro with an undetectable adult bonus. Made with Propeller’s El Palto, an organic single origin Peruvian bean and our neutral ale, the Shake Over Ice is your new best friend for all events and endeavours, be it sunup or sundown, every coffee lovers dream.

Is that their double?

The coffee beer is served over ice whereas the peanut beer is way too thick for that. Both very tasty though.

Opened up the cottage last weekend and stopped at Parsons to pick up some Vortex. While I was there, tried some “11”

Cascade hops, and some Sauvignon Blanc skins thrown into the mash.

4 varieties hops that bring forward pine and a touch of apricots with a mild caramel-like sweetness. A west-coast IPA - danky all the way. Crisp and dry, full-bodied with a substantial hop bitter finish that lingers a while.

Cool brewery with a pub that has a turntable and an impressive vinyl collection.
